Is there any place better than another to purchase a new Softopper from, or is it just straight from Softopper directly?

your only choices are used or softopper directly, unfortunately this means very few sales are to be found.

Here's mine. I'm pretty happy with it, but what I've noticed with everyone elses Softoppers is they sit level with the roof of the cab. Mine is considerably higher.
I bought this used, I'm the third owner, the original owner cut the buckles off the sides...

Looks good, though Im not sure why its so high. I know there are differences between second and third gen models.

I bought mine used as well, and it is missing one strap. I've been thinking of buying one and sewing it on top of the canvas. It is nice to be able to roll up the sides.

Have you adjusted the pin that holds the whole frame system? If I remember correctly, there are 3 height choices(maybe its 2, I no longer have my softopper). It is on the pivot point if you were to fold the topper forward to the cab if you were removing the top. Hope that makes sense??? :notsure:

Thanks. I hadn't realized there were different gens, maybe mine is older. I don't mind it too much, though I would've preferred it sit a bit lower to catch less wind. Once I get a roof rack it'll help it out, I think.
I think I'm going sew some new straps where they originally were at the seam. No idea why someone would cut them off?

Anyone here with a Gen 3 short bed with a Softopper in PNWet Oregon willing to meet up for a chat/beer?

I'd like to get some dimension/measurements of one set up, so I can start designing my kayak rack I need to build to go over a Softopper when I get one.

I'll need the kayak rack well before I'll have the expendable funds for the topper, thus the need to see and measure one.

    Thanks!

Yes, that is the pin hole I was referring to. It appears yours is already on 'lowest' setting, assuming there isn't another hole you could move the pin into?

That is the only hole I see. I was thinking earlier of drilling a new hole, but I'm not sure how that would affect everything. I figure maybe there wouldn't be tension on the snaps and the canvas would be loose.

You can adjust the height lower by tightening the buckles inside the four corners. That causes it to elongate a little and sit lower. You may need to move it further back on the bed if this causes it to contact the cab. Also, If that causes the sides to be too loose, then you would need to move the mounting pin up a hole.

I feel like I have quite a bit of tension on those straps, should I be worried about something breaking? I don't really like how the rear straps hook into that plastic ring.

Plastic ring? Yours must be different, mine is all metal at all four spots where the straps hook to the rail.

Pull down on the top corner of the bar, does it loosen the straps and make them sag? Then you can take up that slack. Download the instruction from the Softopper website, they show what I'm talking about.

I know what you mean, it's pretty tight. This is what my rear straps connect to, the fronts are a metal ring.

these are much harder to snap on when its cold outside ... i usually need a lot of tension on them straps to get it all snapped and have to push down ontop of the back to get the last snaps on the rear... i then loosen all straps front and back ... then retighten them with just a reasonable amount of tension... Them straps can handle a lot of pressure but i also dont like leaving it under such a heavy load at all times and eventually the material will stretch....
