I went back to stock (eww) until I run this 87 octane way down and refill with 93 octane. I forgot how bad it really is. And since it's a fresh flash of stock, it's the best it will be.

Manufacturers are under great pressure from federal regulations too produce more feul efishent vehicles every year.like the VW scandal ,basically there is literally no more they can do mechanically so they are reverting to software .
What I believe ONTUNE is running into is an incredibly complicated ecu.

Ouch! Well I guess it’s probably a good reminder how bad it used to be pre tune. I’m back with over 1000 mi on 1.01b again on my AT. All our trucks are different and mine so far hasn’t responded well to the intake/exhaust mods that came post 1.01b but I’m still happy. It runs infinitely better than stock and I’m looking forward to what Mat turns up now that he has unlimited R&D opportunties with this ECU!

I feel ya. Throttle response is not as crisp as it once was. Also I feel like it bogs a bit more in 2nd than after the initial flash. I'm afraid the dreaded "learning" in these trucks has struck again!

rev matching on the 87 tune is about the same as stock from what I'm feeling right now... maybe just a hair better? takes way too much throttle effort to get there now. 91 tune seemed like it handled this better.

power coming on at 3500 maybe harder than it was.... for me I don't mind this as much though.

Gas milage seems about the same...

    Overall drives good!

It isn't quite as simple as your first statement. It operates somewhat like a PID loop. If you think of the throttle as a "request for power/acceleration" it makes a little more sense. The computer takes your input and is using it as a target power output. Engine parameters like VVT are adjusted based on how far from the target you are. The closer you are to your target, the less abrupt the change.

For instance: If you're cruising along at 30mph in 2nd gear on a flat, you are barely loading the engine. If you mash the accelerator, the VVT is quite noticeable. If you ease into it a bit more it is quite smooth.

Same goes for the situation where you are lugging around in 3rd gear at 20mph. Ease into it and the truck will accelerate smoothly. If you mash the pedal, it will lug and hopefully not knock, but the VVT will come on harder.

From my time with this truck so far this is what I think is going on, although I may not have described it all that well.

The right pedal is not a direct link to the throttle body with fuel injection (obviously). The early systems mimicked a carburetor to some degree, but the advanced engine management systems now aren't even close.

Rev matching on 1.03 87 Octane is about the same as stock? Guess I'm not missing anything then.

    Going back to stock =

While I agree that there should have been an explanation, I don't see why he shouldn't post "that".

Because this forum can't refund his money. That is about a business transaction between he and OVtune. If he is unhappy about that transaction, then he should take it up with OVtune directly. If he has a negative experience with the tune, then by all means post that here with details. If he regrets the purchase and doesn't think it was worth the money, again, post that here as well with his reasoning.

Really? I was just gonna post about my incredible experience today tracking my Tacoma at Virginia International Raceway on 1.03. It was unreal, not a hiccup the whole time around the track and I could FINALLY predictably downshift anticipating corners. Ever since I first bought this truck thats been the one thing thats been super rough to get used to, it would NEVER rev to the same point given the same throttle input depending on speed, gear, and a bunch of other shit. Now its pretty much just point and shoot with the throttle which is truly a beautiful thing. It was holiday laps so I didn't really get to push the truck super hard, but man was it fun. Fox shocks and C/Os really killed it out there. If anybody is on the fence about getting a set of Fox shocks, seriously they are worth every penny when it comes to going fast.

If you would like a refund I have no problem with this, but you would need to discuss this with me outside of the forum, I have no idea who you are so to better assist you it would be best in private.

Our software modules have been at san diego port awaiting customs for whatever reason, and am constantly calling them trying to see what is going on.
