For the Guys and Gals that don’t have an outside temperature gauge here is my install. After looking at the EWD for my truck a 2008 SR5 4X4.
I found all the wire’s to the Overhead Accessory Meter were there. The two wires from the Thermistor Assembly to connector 1C in Driver side Junction Block (lower finish panel) were not there so I added the two wires to the connector 1C and ran them to the outside thermistor assembly and your in business any questions pm me.

3. Connector Housing
Part # 90980-11070

4. Terminal Repair Wire
Part # ? ? ? ? ? (2 NEEDED) (I am working on getting the part
number for this)

5. Overhead Accessory Meter

Hi, I have a 08 Tacoma double cab long bed sr5 and I want to install an overhead console. I looked for the sensor behind the horns and I don't have it. And in console I have 8 wires in the connector housing. My car came with a connector housing with 6 wires only. I’m thinking I’m missing the 2 wire for the temp sensor. All the overhead console wires are black. the wires I have up there are: yellow,green,purple white, white purple, light green and just one underneath one green one. I check under the power steering wheel an in the fuse box I have the connector with :green red, green, orange, light green, blue, red, blue yellow and green white, green, blue purple orange, blue black. It’s normal to have just 6 wires in the housing behind the overhead console and 8 in the overhead console housing? If I need to run 2 wires from the sensor can I run this straight to the overhead console or I have to go in the fuse box. Thanks

 

Item number 4.) (reference above in BEEFTACOS POST) Terminal Repair Wire Part ????? the part number is probably going to be Terminal Repair Wire 82998-12690 (Female connector) or 82998-12700* the astrik indicates that it is gold tinned thats why its a different part number. The connector housing in which it is going to be inserted into is the 1C Connector (part# 90980-11913) which is a Female connector which is located in the Junction/Fuse box in the cabin under the dash (remove the small pull out panel to access fuses) between the 1A & 1B connectors, right above/next to the large redish/pinkish square 30 Amp fuse.
To insert:
1.) remove 1C Connector.
2.) gentlly disengage the small locking part on top of the 1C connector with a small jewelers screw driver by prying it up.
3.) insert Wire Repair Terminal into the 1C connector slots pin#1 and pin#3, respectively.
4.) engage small locking part by gently pushing/snapping it down, back into place.
5.) reinsert 1C connector into the Junction/Fuse box.
6.) make sure all connections are secure and in place, turn iginition switch to ON and compass/temperature display should indicate temp.
7.) Beer Time!

 

hi guy's, i have a 05 tacoma and my accessory meter stopped working, i have read several post where people said that this was a common problem and they removed the part and there were 2 flad resisters that are black/grey that seemed to come un-soldered. well....i took mine apart and first of all, i see no flat resisters and what is there looks to be ok, any other sugesstions?

Hi I have 2008 Tacoma double cab bought the overhead console and thermistor assemble and wires but when i look at connector 1C all my wire are different colors then photo posted and wire all ready in pins #1 and #3
any help would be appreciated

This doesn't answer your question, sorry. It's just an alternative. I bought a cyberdyne ambient air gauge for my truck. Easy to install and you can put the probe anywhere you want.

 

Today I took the over head temp out of my friends 06 trd. I have an 07 sr5. Everything switched over fine except the outside sensor. I do not have a plug for it. I went ahead and cut his out( and about a ft of wire, hope I didn't mess up his truck) where exactly do I splice it into? I can't seem to find the answer.

 

Ok gents, I am really confused here. I have an 08 4 cyl. and I am desperately trying to get my temperature sensor to work. I have the sensor I got from a member, but none of the necessary wiring on the truck.

Can anyone explain the wiring diagram to me? If I get the plug connector, and run wires, where do i plug them into? My fuse box is different from the v6 one.

I know that this particular post is a couple of years old along with a few years old thread...but you just never know right? Also this is for those individuals that are at least seeking answers?

So with that said....are you sure that you were looking at the right connector?

Are those wires that are already in pins #3 & #1, colors yellow and gray respectively?

If so then you already have the temperature sensor connected out front behind your grill or at least the connector part?

If not then you are somehow going to have to find another wiring diagram for your particular model 2008?

 

I just did this on my 2007 SR5 Tacoma. I had the wiring to the console, but didn't have the temp probe or the wiring from 1C connector to the front. These parts are what I ordered and it worked great. I got the temperature console itself from ebay. The parts list above is correct. Here is what I ordered from Toyota dealer. I'm doing a version of this mod, and writing it up. Will give credit due to a couple of threads. The hardest part is what you have vs. what you want (and therefore need to buy). Inspect everything, read everything. First, up in the console, the FORWARD plug would be used for an overhead display OR a display mirror connection.
If you have a YELLOW at the top left, and a GREY at the bottom right, you DO have a connection down to the fuse panel for temperature sensor.

Then, before you tear up your arm digging down inside the grille, remove the little panel that covers the fuse box, and look at the middle connector next to the square, red fuse. On the right side of the panel, it will be the middle connector.

Mine has black marking pen on the left side. If pins 1 (top left) and 3 (3rd down left) are EMPTY, you do NOT have wiring to a thermistor out front. You will need to make a harness, and buy the Thermistor, Connector, and Connector pins. Plus the harness stuff. If you DO have wires in those pins, congratulations, you HAVE a factory harness. and now you want to check behind the grille, on the harness going to the horns.

Here are my new connector body (white) and thermistor (black, with white mount). If you had wiring to the front, you probably have the connector, and only need the thermistor. It mounts on the front middle radiator support bracket, you will find two holes halfway down. Thermistor down, the connectors are "sealed".

Looking to complete my install and documents tomorrow. Hope this helps someone out. Apparently what you find in any give cab is always a mystery! This is what I found in my SR5 PreRunner Double cab.

 

Guess what? If you install a GENTEK mirror, which is the OEM version for any mirror with auto dim, temp, or compass, AND you want to use MIRROR TEMP, you need to use the sensor that comes with the MIRROR! NOT, the Toyota Sensor that goes with the OVERHEAD COMPASS & TEMP DISPLAY. So, if you want a virtually new Toyo Sensor and mount, message me. Like $15 for both, and I will do cheap postal.

 

Sorry, the side by side is fuzzy. Toyo on the right. 140F is what happens when you feed the mirror the Toyo sensor. (Sigh.... it was going so well). But, I got it.

So did you just swap the sensor or run wires too?

 

Just cut the sensor off its wires, and soldered to my newly run ones, and gave them some heat shrink. Naturally didn't mount the same but I left enough wire to get it mounted.

 

Ok so for clarification. You had no unit in your rig or you just replaced the mirror with a new one with compass and temp? You ran new wires to the front? I have an 11 and i just want to swap mirror in existing. Cant get a temp reading but everything else works.

 

I had wires only in the cab, ran new wires from fuse block to the front. Had a worthless plain mirror, and replaced it with a Gentek (that came with it's own sensor.) I bought a Toyota sensor for my work, be even though Gentek makes OEM units, the ones they sell on their own are not the same. So, I still have the original Toyota sensor I bought for the project. If you have a powered mirror, and all the wiring, I would pull your temp sensor, and see if you get a different reading. do you get a display where the temp numbers go at all?
