Well, I assume it probably was a .35 if that's what's been reported. 200 yards with a hunting handgun is not a big deal at all. Especially with a hunting gun like the XP-100 in .35 Rem, which is a pretty common hunting handgun. No one refers to any cartridge shooting a .358 bullet as anything other than a .35 caliber. Even my 358STA is a .35 caliber. Just like all the .30 caliber rifles don't actually shoot a .300 diameter bullet. Even if it was a .357 magnum, or even a .357 maximum, I don't see any problem calling it a .35 caliber.

From what little I've read on the situation, there has been no info on what he was actually shooting. My first assumption is 200 yards in low light means a scoped, hunting handgun. Lots of options. Savage, Remington, Weatherby, T/C, etc. all make good long range hunting handguns. Not to mention really good single actions like Freedom Arms, etc. 200 yards would not even be considered long range for a decent shot.

Personally, I think there is more to the story than what's been reported.

You may want to pull out some calipers when you get a chance. A 38 special shoots a .357 diameter bullet, not .38. I don't know of anything that shoots an actual .38 diameter bullet. The 9.65mm Browning comes close at .378.

I agree the story is just bizarre and it seems to me that this should have never happened. I live nearby and I hunt. Sunset is around 4:30pm but its still light enough to see what your shooting at until closer to 5pm but at 5:30 its just too dark. There is no way any hunter should be taking a shot that late let alone a 200 yard shot.

 

Let's not forget that .357 magnum is a very known thing to even the most non-gun person. Had it been a handgun in this caliber, it would have been used. But a ".35cal handgun" was likely something a touch closer to a mid class rifle cartridge in a platform annotated above.

It's been my experience that places that serve breakfast 24 hours a day 365 days a year are just to be avoided. I'm really amazed that a lot of them pass any kind of health inspection

Agreed. After a night out once, we stopped in at a place and the (old bat) waitress was so rude. As soon as we walked in she yells from across the restaurant "sit where ever, Im the only one here so youll be waiting" in a rude manner. So we sat down and in the 10 minutes we didnt get service I had enough time to fill out a servey for the place saying how bad the service was. Then we left as we probably wouldve been waiting another 10 minutes.
I get that your job is shit but lady youve had 50-60 years to figure out your life, dont make it my problem.
