I wanted to get some feedback from some second gens out there. Should I trade my 03 double cab 4x4 with a tundra 4.7 v8 auto trans for a 2006 tacoma 4x4 4.0 auto trans? both trucks have E lockers and rebuilt tittles. I am keeping my wheels and tires and I get cash on top.

I guess the big question is WHY do you think that you want to make the trade since the money isn't an obstacle right now?

Is there a fix or is the problem consistent.

    New head gasket. :)

Toyota is resisting to issue recalls but it’s a widespread issue and owners are SOL.

My initial reaction is heck yes.. although I'm wondering why they would trade you plus cash? Seems like a step back for the other guy. I would also wonder about the mileage and the '05, '06 head gasket worries...

In that case if you are okay with the potential maintenance that will be required on the new truck that you know nothing about, money is not an issue, and it's a truck that you want I guess I'll put my vote for go for it.

A step back?? Maybe in years but an 03 with a tundra V8 conversion already done has to be a step up imo...

Hmmm. Seems like there is a bit of risk on both sides. I would get his checked out a bit and if all seems kosher I would go for it..

Well I am partial to Gen 2's yes, I like the little bit of extra room and the design better. I also like stock drive trains, not that it isn't really cool that they got a V8 into a Gen 1.

I would but not an 06. I would trade for a 2012 or newer with cash. Also a manual trans that way most of the issues have been resolved. 06 is just too riskey.

Besides the HG issue I think the 2nd gens are just as good - of course I'm selling my 2nd gen lol

That was more of a 4x4 vs 2x4 issue for me though!
