Premium Audio Upgrade for less than $250

So I ran some sweeps and test tones through the system and found the kicker 6x9 had decent output (with cabin gain) down to 35hz. They fall off hard after that but that’s to be expected. The sub I’m running is good to about 35hz as well but really adds to the volume of bass your hearing/feeling. So if you’re just running the door speakers I wouldn’t be in a rush to add a sub, but if you are a bass head like me, it does positively add to the experience.

Would the Frys speakers come with mounting hardware and what size do I get.

 

^ this. That's why I ordered with Crutchfield. I could get it cheaper at other places, but not if I included the cost of the mounting hardware.

 

You're right. Just looked up what's needed, and it's not included at Fry's. $65 for the 6x9s at Crutchfield today, with everything you need.
That'll be the better deal.

 

Can the Subaru tweeter hook up to a 2nd gen JBL system? 2011?

 

No the JBL even on 3rd Gen is different

 

Anyone hook up an external amp to power the kickers op posted. I installed mine about a month ago and now dissapointed with sound and having to turn head unit volume up very high

 

Just curious why u didnt go to 100-150 per channel as speakers are 150rms wont the 50 per chanel be same as head unit? Keep us posted on how you connected to soeaker wires and remote this is my next mod

 

Has anyone done this on an SR with the standard radio?

 

I'd be really surprised if the head unit is putting out anywhere near 50w RMS, more likely less than half that.

 

Should be no different. Does the SR have tweeters in the dash?

 

What amp/sub do you have? Are the stock speakers loud enough?

 

From what I’ve seen, the factory HU pushes out less than 20 per channel. I installed the new amp Friday and the difference is night and day. Finally have bass I feel!

Ordered the Subaru Tweeter (

$119 H631SFJ101 - Genuine OEM

H631SFJ101) and it is a 4 prong connector whereas my tweeters in my 2017 Tacoma have a 2 prong connection. How did you work around this? Thanks. I have the factory JBL setup.

 

Holy crap. I’m a handy guy. But I’ve never done stuff with speakers and NOTHING ever like the sound deadening. And a bit of a perfectionist in the handy and crafty stuff i do. I would say that if the Noico doesn’t make a huge difference. DONT DO IT. holy crap. The first door took me FOREVER. between trying to figure the screws and mounting them on the bracket and how to do the noico well. Rough.

Hope the next three doors go a lot quicker.

The screws and brackets also sucked. Not sure I did them right. Well I angled the screws right. But I used these little back pieces. Not sure if needed or if used them right?

 

I also attempted to install mine today. Very frustrated with how the speaker lines up to the bracket. Guess we have to drill a 4th hole? And what’s up with the L shaped pieces of metal we’re supposed to screw into? What a joke

 

So here is some more of my tips for those who aren’t experienced with this stuff. Or who are nervous to go at it.

Removing the panels of the doors is not easy. Maybe my plugs were extra tough or I was doing it wrong. But on all my doors several of the white plugs didn’t pull out of the door. Rather I pulled the back of the plug out of the panel. So they’d be left in the door and I’d remove them with the tools. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS WITHOUT THE ORANGE TOOLS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. I can’t imagine doing it without them. And the little pick tool was a HUGE help. I’d use it to mark the Noico so I would know where to cut things.

 

When applying the Noico I recommend holding it up and marking and pushing on the Noico where you need to make cuts. The product is pretty amazing. Where there were little circles I’d unplug the wire and push on the Noico and after have a mark where to cut out. Also. Don’t try to cover everything with full sheets. I would use a full sheet for the bottom area covering the speaker hole. From there I would mostly use half sheets to do the rest. And save all your extra pieces you cut. You can use them to cover where wires come out and other little spots.
