Carpro’s Cquartz UK coating/ Reload spray sealant results

Coated the truck last week using the Cquartz UK SiO2 based coating. It was my first experience with it and turned out to be a little difficult to apply. After some pointers from some more experienced detailers I got it on, leveled and looking good. This coating is advertised as being effective for 2+ years with proper care so we’ll see how that holds true on a daily driver that will spend its entire life outside.

I followed up the coating 24hrs layers with Carpro’s spray sealant Reload which will act as a sacrificial layer over the coating.

What aspect did you find difficult in application? Just curious.

 

Leveling the coating out so that is doesn't leave what appears to be an oil slick (rainbow effect) on the paint after curing. After my first attempt I had to polish the entire hood and driver side of the truck again because of high spots in the coating. You just have to take your time leveling the coating out (4-5 passes crosshatched), use less of the product than you think you need (3-4 drops on the applicator), have good lighting, then buff it off almost immediately as it cures fast and will get "grabby". Once I figured out all the above the process went smooth.

After taking to a couple professional they did mention it's one of the harder consumer coatings to apply so that made me feel a little better.

 

I have some of this to use on the truck. I used Optimum’s coating in the past but wanted to try something different. I plan on using the new Gliss as my topcoat.

 

Sounds like the CQ-UK might be the toughest non-pro coating out there. You guys get that same impression?

 

I feel confident if I every use it again. I want to try Gyeon’s Mohs next.

 

Not from what I have read. Supposed to be pretty forgiving. OP what was temps when applying?

 

I have used Gyeon’s and it’s my go to for coatings. I have tried Adams, Optimum, and been using Gyeons for about 7 vehicles so far. Extremely easy to use and have had excellent results with it.

 

Around 65 and pretty dry. It’s a thicker coating that flashes pretty quickly which can make leveling and buffing off difficult.

 

Have you tried Sonax’s CC36 yet? I have some but haven’t used it yet.

 

Which Gyeon coating are you using? I’m assuming its for the red tacoma in your picture?
I’ll admit it was pretty easy to use, only difficulty I had was seeing the high spots after staring at the paint for the few hours lol

I was considering on redoing it with an Optimum coating to try something new.

 

I was impressed with Optimum, but I didn’t think it achieved the longevity as what others had experienced. It was on a customers car, so not sure what was used from when I coated it to when he came back for another coating.

My truck has Adams on it. Application is easy with Adams, but keeping it “slick” is a pain. Always having to use some type of top coat with it after a wash. With Gyeon, I am not having to top coat the coating as much to get its slickness.

With Gyeon, I have used Mos, Booster, Rim, and trim. Of all of them, I really like Mohs with Booster on it. I was impressed with trim, but I like Adams Trim coating more.

 

No, have not used Sonax’s coating products, but I do like how easy they make the install process.
