What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

If you can hold it straight and you have a good plastic or rubber mallet you can just smack the end of the cv, done that a lot on smaller cars that don't have flanges to pound.

 

Lol I wouldn't have even attempted that. Just figured that was the shape of it.

My tailgate barely closes anyways right now there is so much dirt in it. Needs a good wash.

Started to clean up my tundra calipers, before I paint them. I need to figure out a better option use to clean the second one. It took forever. Thinking an angle grinder will be better

 

Made some small progress spread out over the last couple days. Cut the old cam tabs off with the plazma. Noticed the driver front Lca mount was about 1/4" farther back than the other side, so had to carefully beat that back into place. Measures out perfect now.
Then welded on the TC cam tab gussets. After that more repairs, noticed the coil bucket gussets had some big slots where the bolt comes through, so I welded up the slot and ground the hole til bolt fit again. Hopefully more to come later this week.

 

Found the tools for lowering the spare tire carrier and in the process of mounting the spare (for the first time since ive owned the truck) found out that the small metal piece that holds the wheel is broken on one side.
Anyone know where i can get just the piece (searched to no avail) or will i have to buy the whole carrier assembly

 

Yeah and packed with grease stuff it didn’t move it needs legit less than half an inch to sit flush

 

No angle grinder, get a bench grinder with a brass wire wheel. Make sure to protect the pistons and rubber boots and go to town. Alternately tape off everything important and borrow a sand blaster for a couple mins, sand blaster would clean it up real fast.

 

Don’t know anyone with a sand blaster. At this point the angle grinder with a wire wheel is my only other option.

 

For how small those are and all the nooks and crannies. I'd just get a brass wire wheel or something else kinda coarse for a Dremel and use that. I think an angle grinder won't reach the important places an may mess up the less robust areas.

 

The first one I ended up using a dremel it just took quite a bit of time and ate through the wire wheel.

 

There is a recall for the spare tire carrier. Check to see if yours has been done yet. If not, don't waste your money doing it yourself when you can get one put in for free.

If after sometime the rear starts to squeak real bad, it's the front leaf hanger bushing. I just recently swapped the front bushings out for the greaseable daystar bushing and bolts. I've only had the springs on for less than 5K miles too. The daystar bushings completely silenced the squeak.

Are you running stock leafs? I have dakars and they are loud as shit...just bought greasable shackles, totally spaced on the front bushing...

 

Just installed my delta 40 Flowmaster

Passed inspection, HID D2S bulbs going back in.
