Thanks for the education. I was under the naive assumption that CAD was when you were on the screen and CAM was when you were ready to render. 3D printer being one way of output. I never realized Shapeway was parting out to independent printers. They made it sound like they had their own. Good to know.

Ya CAD is the designing side. You can output it in any format depending on what you're doing ; SLDPRT solidworks, DXF for laser cutting, STL 3D printing, etc etc. CAM is where you designate what tool & path of how to cut out the part you designed. There are many online services like shapeways; Xometry, 3D hubs, etc. Our company happens to sub out for the later.

The world has changed significantly in the 12 years since I last touched AutoCad:). I have some curiosity in this area and one day hope to get a little 3D printer to play around. I do appreciate the insights.

Congrats on another well-executed "ultimate" project. You are a visionary with major skills! This is evident by all of these mod-dreamers drooling to get one, but I doubt many of them realize the cost of "ultimate"! Maybe a reality check is in order, then you can gauge whether it is worth your time.
Just curious: with 3 red lights, how blinding is it to a driver behind you? Did you consider reversing the colors and have 3 white lights? That might give better visibility around the tire.

I said the ULTIMATE not the cheapest lol
As far as brightness... these aren't "blinding" because since they are "rock lights" the light is diffused 360degrees..VS focused straight back(like a spot light). Although they are bright, the color is a very vivid red and the light disperses everywhere.(which is good for visibility)
