I'm new to TW and haven't had my truck long but after a weekend hunting trip in the back country I'm thinking a better skid plate than what's on my SR5 may be in order. I prefer to keep things looking stock/OEM but I'm not against after market stuff if it's superior. Thoughts on skid plates from folks who have them? I'm thinking that black plastic air dam will have to come off to accomodate one ??? Any advice is appreciated!

They do look rugged. Even though it's more $$, the aluminum looks good at half the weight of the steel.

If you’re not doing a lot of banging off rocks aluminum would work. If you’re like me and like to play on rocks go with steel.

Ive been looking seems like for heavy duty wheeling its Mobtown or BAMF .
If its just stronger than stock and good looking maybe even aluminum CBI , RCI

I'm not doing anything heavy duty (hence the sr5), I do get out into the back country from time to time on weekends and what-not and just want some extra protection for the undercarriage components from incidental damage. Sounds like aluminum may work for my needs.

Another awesome feature of mobtown is the oil filter door and drain plug in hole in the ifs skid. Otherwise you will drop your front skid every time you do an oil change on the 3rd gen.

I bought RCI because of the group buys that happen on here regularly.

And no, you do not have to remove the front valence for an aftermarket skid
