2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road/low profile mud flaps

Fellow Tacos,

Does anyone know if there is a low profile mud flap available for Tacoma? I don't like the hard plastic flaps that hang down, they look cheesy and will get in the way off road.

I have thought about treating the bottom of the doors with clear bra which is similar to what Toyota installs at the factory behind the rear tire.

If anyone knows of a couple good websites for upgrades I would be grateful.

 

I have the weather tech ones. They're hard plastic and would probably destroy the fender if hit by something hard.

I know guys on here have made some themselves and I think someone sold some soft ones on here at one point..

I liked the look, but they curled when material stuck to them.

Are those 3.5 or 4.5 bs? 16 or 17?

Rokblokz are not at all rubber. They are a soft semiflexible plastic.

 

$150 for flaps seems excessive to me. They don't particularly look good imo which isn't helping.

 

Yep, and they are a bit stiffer than I expected.

I had some rubbing with the plasticolor flaps. No rubbing at all with rokblokz

 

Is it just me or do the rokblokz look much longer then the plasticolor ones? Also they appear to stick out further than the plasticolor.

In terms of appearance the plasticolor looks much better to me especially with the 4wd logos on them. Not sure how well they perform though.

They remind me of the mud flaps used on the 1st gen tacomas...not sure why they went away with those ones. Curious as to what they were.

Just snagged the OEM Tacoma set for $73. Pretty good deal compared to the dealership.

 

The OEM ones on Amazon are a good deal. I did mountain trails in Colorado and only scuffed the mudflaps even though I sat the truck on them a few times.

 

Standard size rokblokz are longer and wider than 11x9" plasticolors; especially the front flaps. And the Rokblokz mounting holes are slotted to adjust how far they stick out. I preferred the look of the plasticolor too, but imo the truck looks the best with no flaps at all.

I had the plasticolor on for a year and can say the fronts were to short to fully protect the truck for my use. I routinely drive to a hunting cabin that is back 8 miles of gravel road. The lower part of my front doors and pinch weld are already well chipped because the flaps were too short. The plasticolors are also flexible enough that they curl easily when loaded with material. The performance plus switching to a more aggressive tire meant I had to make a change with the mud flaps to protect the paint.

If you need a flexible flap for everyday protection then the plasticolor is great, but I needed something better suited for stones.

 

I drive a few miles on dirt/gravel daily... my driveway, basically... so I need the stone guards... and so do the folks behind me on the highway commute. I don't want to piss off my neighbors by breaking windshields/headlights, denting hoods and causing mayhem.

Ebay Red Hound mud guards are super cheap and a perfect fit, so why not run the long dongs on the daily? They are <2 minutes to remove with an electric drill & socket.

 

Buy these and be your own mud guard pit crew.
