What are the rules on calling out a dealer/online parts seller here?

Very first line on terms and conditions of shipping:

"All orders over $49 ship for FREE in the Continental United States. (Lower 48 States) *Excludes oversized or overweight items."

Sorry man. Like I said, had same thing happen to me.

 

I get that. My argument isn't and never was that it excludes oversized items. My issue with them comes in that they are advertising a price with free shipping in several places and then come back after the fact and tack on an $85 shipping charge.

I.E.
Google advertisement states free shipping.
The product page doesn't mention anything either way.
The cart states "Estimated shipping to XXXXX"=$0.00.
The receipt says free shipping.
The order confirmation says free shipping.

Just post a buyer beware thread and name the seller/retailer and what happened to you. Then everyone else can form their own opinions.
Nothing wrong with that, plus you warn others AND it keeps them honest.

To be honest, nothing prevented you from reading the terms and conditions before trying to buy. I wouldn't exactly call it buried on their site ether, it's the first bullet point in the shipping section. Not trying to be a dick, just honest. Do what you gotta do though.

 

Well, you kind of already sent them a message by spending your money elsewhere, and you got a good price. Those bed mats are bulky and heavy, I would guess $50 - $75 through FedEx ground. It sounds like just a mistake and miscommunication, not an intentional bait-and-switch, however annoying it might be.

I just went through a local dealer, they gave me a discount when I balked at retail, then gave me a bigger discount when it came in with the plastic wrapper torn and a tiny bit of damage. It's a bed mat, going to get messed up anyway!

IMO, taking 2 seconds to scroll down to shipping policies would make this a non issue from the start.

It is shady, but on oversized items kind of expected.

 

LOL, that's one way to do it I guess. I disagree though, the non issue would have come in had at any point during browsing or checkout there would have been any indication whatsoever that this item would require additional shipping. ETA: without having to click extra links that no one realistically ever views.

October 26, 2017 I bought a long bed mat (Toyota OEM) for $107.99 and free shipping off of ebay.....no hidden fees!

 

What the dealer tried to pull is bordering on bait & switch. There are many such dealers, and many such vendors, and they should all be publicly called out 100% of the time they try to screw the customer. If they don't get called out, nothing will ever change and people will keep getting screwed.

It is not the customer's job to know whether an item is "oversized" or not, nor to guess at the associated costs. It is 100% the seller's job to properly advertise their products and their prices.

$85 for shipping is a rip off. I got my Bedmat for less than that with shipping included. The oversize thing is BS as well, The matt gets shipped rolled up, my short bed one was around 6"x6"x5' IIRC.
