Appreciate you owning up. No problem.

All us good welders were once shitty welders.

If we don't know we need improvement, we will never attempt to get better.

Post up some of your welds so we can fairly critique them...or be amazed.

I figured out a long time ago that there's always someone better at everything, so I stopped worrying and do my best. And trust me, going through welding school at 46 is *very* humbling. Darn 17 year old kids with good eyes and steady hands.

It's the DTs that get me! Sometimes though, when everything aligns, they allow me to run the greatest beads.

It's tough getting the good natured ribbing to come across the Internet without seeming like an asshole. But I've encountered some people who really are just jerks to new grads and rookies. I had one guy at a new job when was I first out of school (that being engineering school wwaaayyy back when) that would just ride you endlessly but never actually help you figure out what you did wrong. I figure as long as the experienced guy is willing to teach and the new guy is willing to learn it's just for fun.

I live on the edge of death so I don't really have a filter. My friends accept me even if I am a sarcastic prick who pokes fun at their inabilities as they do the same. its called "not everyone gets a trophy". I put just as much effort into helping people that get my shit talk. I taught a lot of people my tricks and never turned down a chance to help someone go from grinding bitch to fabricator.

Back on topic, anyone have a Mig/Tig-in-one machine that works decently? i've used a themral arc 181i for some little mig stuff but never used a tig on one of these small machines.. I dont think i use it for anything over 1/4" but i cant justify spending more as of yet.

I have a Multimatic 215 and the TIG on it is useable, in that it will run a TIG torch in a pinch. Not having HF start isn't ideal all the time, but it's DC-only, so you can't do aluminum anyway where the lift start would be a real problem.

Have the multimatic 215 as well. The mig welds real well coming from a millermatic 212. Maybe better. Tried messing with the tig on some thin stuff and had a lot of trouble but im still learning to tig. Little bit of a learning curve using lift start or scratch start coming from HF starts on a dynasty.

I have the miller multimatic 200 that I use at home the mig tig stick and flux core all run great. Here's a little project my son just did this weekend for school I helped cut and fit but he did all the welding himself. He used aluminum-bronze and tig brazed it. Not too bad for his second time tig welding. Only dipped his wick a couple times.

This made me laugh. Thank you. Since I'm just a bag on bones and sloppy shit rolling around in a world of fast moving objects, I too am living on the edge of death :headbang: But I guess we all are then.

An air cooled torch is gonna get warm with enough time or current, I don't think it's any worse with a 215 than anything else.

hmm, Ok I'll elaborate. I put myself in a lot of life ending situations, a lot more than an average person.

EDIT: I do a lot of stupid sh!t as smart as possible.
