Just noticed today, due to the light, an indent on the dash of my 17 SR5. The dealership said that's on all the trucks...I have a hard time believing that! I haven't yet been able to look at other trucks to check myself. Anyone else have this?2017-12-04 08.51.59.jpg

It's less Tacoma and more mod
That's where the airbag cutout is, it is pre-perforated and has no structure under there so the bag can fire safely in the event of a crash.

Seriously...they cant make the vinyl flat? I get a cut out below, but you'd think the dash surface would be flat. Thanks for the prompt responses.

Eh, it's pretty typical, they used to make them much more pronounced. Might have a tough time finding them in a Mercedes or BMW but Toyota truck, this is pretty decent.

Much better hidden than first gens...

First, the obligatory: it's a truck!

Otherwise, designing plastic molds is a bit of an art form, esp once you introduce textures. A lot of effort is put into the mold process so that folks don't see reinforcements behind visible surfaces, like ribs and such. In this case, it is the thin section of a parting line for airbag inflation. The fact that you didn't notice it until now is a bit of a testament to the time put in on design. It would have been invisible if the dash wasn't hard plastic, but for me, I'm glad that it is hard versus something soft touch. Just not needed in the Taco, IMHO.

Yup, went to the dealer to pick it up after the service and scouted a few new ones and they have it too. The reason I noticed it today was it was pretty cold overnight and as the cab heated up had condensation form over that spot. Now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it.

You get used to it. I see it every day on vehicles. As long as there are no rips or tears in it, I wouldn't worry.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
They put the rejected "seconds" dashes in the SR5's. Keep the top shelf stuff for the TRD models.:boink:

Smart move, I’d say. The only Demographic who notices these things are older types double fisting Starbucks who happen to notice small inconsistencies on the walk back from buying pleated pants at the mall. Same demo that demands TRD :boink:
