ah ive had some experience with wildlife/trial cams. was it actually recording to a DVR wirelessly over long distance though? thats what i dont get. because you said its possible to record to a remote device so i wouldn't have to worry about a device being stolen. wouldn't that require a wireless hotspot to be on at all times in the car? or are you claiming you can use ATV to send a tv broadcast from the truck and then record over long distance to a dvr? sounds wayyyyy more complicated then just having a small dash cam dvr in a console vault lol.

one thing that high end dash cams feature though that can be demanding on a battery is buffered video. so when an impact or motion is detected, it doesnt start recording a second after (or several seconds after like some cheaper dash cams) they are constantly buffering 10 seconds of video on internal memory, so if motion or an impact is triggered, it saves that prior 10 seconds and additional 10-20 seconds (ore more if its motion). this puts more demand on the battery, but the point is you don't capture someone driving away from your car, you actually record the 10 seconds leading up to them hitting your car.

Way sorry for the confusion- you are right, as for a car, I meant a wired dvr stored remotely from the camera in the car. supercircuits has some nifty small dvr’s with motion triggered recording (that’s what we used) that have low amp draw when in monitoring mode.

What you need is a secondary parallel storage on a n SD card somewhere on the exterior of the truck...with a servo attachment...and then a series of rules that determine when the capsule containing the SD card will be dropped to the ground...Thief breaks in and cam is recording...of the truck then drives away without some sort of override the SD card gets dropped to the ground. The thief is driving off and not looking for the card...Shhh...
