First was low tranny fluid symptoms, after a long ordeal, it was found to be 2quarts low and topped off. Tranny Hesitation from R to D, TSB finally solved that. TSB also helped the extreme shifting too.
Minor rattles on dash, pushed in passenger A pillar, solved.
Radiator/body mounts screeching every time small bumps were driven over, traded before fixed.
Also, leaky windy door seals, replaced and fixed. Howling lca’s, fixed.
Buzzy floorboards that left my right foot numb after long drives. No solution.
Rear differential began howling at 1200 miles, slowly got louder. No solution. Final straw, traded off.

Brakes were great! If I hit them too hard, it’d stop on a dime!
Loved the redesigned interior and exterior, especially the embossed tailgate.
Really liked the individual tire readout on the display too.
    Hated push button start though.

You know that's a great question. He was banned for a month, came back, and then got banned again. I don't know why he was banned the second time. Also OP, this review is excellent. Touches on all points and compares it to the Colorado competition.

17 DCSB auto TRD Off Road 4x4 here with about 12k miles. Had it almost a year, only real issue on mine is I do have a leaky rear diff. Dealer tightened it up, but I need to follow up on it still. I have some other little nagging issues, like my brakes squeak, weird dash/window rattle, headliner rattle, A arms kazoo, and very occasionally get a shift flare from 2-3 or 3-4. I have not had a tranny update, so i'm hopeful the update corrects that since it's a symptom of the TSB. A arms has a TSB to fix and has since been corrected during production. Rattles are minor and if I had any motivation, i'd fix them in about an hour. Brakes work fine, just squeak on stopping, i'm gonna make the dealer deal with it, Yay warranty. Really the diff, which should be an easy fix is my only concern. My dealer on my 10k mile visit was very lazy and did nothing.

Driving is fine, no way the 2.7 pulls like my truck. Shifting on the highway seems normal. I regularly pull a 3k pound trailer and have no complaints.

I like it and would buy again. I will find a different dealer though, luckily there is like 5 toyota dealers within a reasonable distance of me. My sales girl was smokin', so I go back mostly for the chance to see her.... You can only look at so many Yaris and Corolla before the dealership gets boring, gotta keep yourself entertained somehow.

TLDR: Truck pretty good, dealer sucks, but is hot.

Having a 2015 Ram 2500 diesel I have had zero issues other than a few minor sensors. I can understand teething issues so that is fine with me.

So far the 3rd gen has more positive feedback. Definitely a plus.

Thank you for your info. It's appreciated.

Spoken dripping with sarcasm: I appreciate the decent, but a Dakota? I may have to jump off a tall building knowing there is even one guy who can make that link...shudders me to my core! :crapstorm:

Shit I just googled it (I don’t drive a Dakota) there IS a resemblance! They both have 4 wheels.

Big Tacoma fan. This is my second Tacoma and you’ll love it. That said, The shifting sucks and you have to floor it to get any acceleration(super annoying amirite?!). Changing the tires from those terrible street tires to a decent tire like the KO2 KILLS your mpg. Down from 21 to like 17. If you can live with this, get it.

Like the 3.5 better than the 4.0.
Interior and body alot better (aesthetically anyways).
Quieter and a little more solid.
Manual transmish is the way to go.
    Skip the slush box.
    Some issues but nothing major.
    Buy it!

Click noise might be the speaker housing. Make sure the passengers tweeter is fully seated. Press down on all four corners. Fix is to wedge in felt on the offensive clip.

4runner pro. Plan to keep it till I croak.

But I stayed with Toyota, just lost confidence with one vehicle, not the brand. My other Toyota’s have been great!

The MPG loss is likely due to that tire. I personally have ran 5 different tires and I have settled on the Toyo AT2. MPG went up compared to the Goodyear Silent Armors I ran prior.

I put falken AT3W on my truck in a slightly larger size and have no noticeable difference in MPG. I think it depends on the load size you go with.

Well funny you ask. I buy trucks based on performance and MPG. My 2015 Ram diesel highway average is 22 MPG. In city is 16-17. So I guess you could say I do.
