Prinsu bike mount

So I currently have a Prinsu roof rack; I want be able to mount my bike to it preferably by the forks of the bike. I know this isn't a fan favorite because you still have to find a place to store the tire and you have to take the extra 10 min to but the tire on and off when you want to use it. But like most things even though its not practical i just like the way it looks better without the front tire. I have some old yakima bike racks but Im thinking Im going to have to start fresh. I tried mounting them on but they had a little too much wiggle to them for me to feel comfortable about driving with a bike on top. I'm thinking Ill just grab a cheap yakima fork mount and but it on the rack but the part im not sure about is how to mount the back tire to keep it in place. Any ideas? is there a totally better way?

Check out 8020 Inc for some t-slot mounting hardware. Should be something in there to get the rack set up.

 

Do you want the fork mount on the front of the roof of the truck or at the back with the rear wheel on top of the soft topper?

Rear wheel doesn’t move much when you use a fork mount.
I have one that I use and the rear tire sits on the factory hard tonneau cover. because our roads are bumpy and I drive like a teenager, I use a simple tie-strap to keep some tension on the back wheel just in case. I’ve driven without the rear tire secured and it may move left or right a whole 2”.

Rear tire trays can be made cheap from 1/2 of a PVC pipe.

Front wheel gets secured in the bed or cab.

I’d avoid the roof mounting because it’s a pain to get the bike up there. I ride hard and fall harder, last thing I want to do when all banged up is lift my bike over my head and try to hold it steady when setting the fork mount. Trust me, I’ve had incidents...

What did you use to secure the back tire on your bike? The picture didn't show and I couldn't find it in the thread.

 

That appears to have a front tire mount bolted to the rack, then a Velcro strap keeping the rear tire secured to the mounted front, eliminating any side to side movement that could happen in transit.

thanks for your input. Your rig looks amazing; love the blue. I'd want the forks mounted at the front of the rack. I'm surprised the back wheel doesn't move. Im known to drive a little on the wild side myself so i would definitely want to have it secured in some way. I feel like mounting it on top is my only option. I have a spare tire on the back of my truck which already makes it hard to get into parking places; especially in ATL GA where i work. I swear the parking spots are smaller there. So my rig would be extremely long if a did a hitch or tire bike rack. I'm trying to get on the bike 2 times a week so i'd like to just keep it mounted up there so i can just randomly hit the trail whenever i have some spare time.

 

yea i wasn't real worried about the front tire after taking it off. I was planning on just tossing it in the bed under the soft top. I was more asking about the securing of the back tire but he may not have it secured at all; like you said It may not need to be. Or with his set up; Velcroing it to the wheel fork may be enough to keep it from moving.

@Murrayb4 does the fork mount hold tight enough to not allow the back tire to bounce when going over bumps or do you always just strap it down to prevent that?

 

The tire will bounce when not secured, but only slightly.
I’ve used the same setup without the tonneau, the back tire rests on the tailgate instead.
On my previous Tacoma’s I was able to fit the whole bike in the bed, and I never secured the rear wheel.
On your roof rack, if the back tire touches the back bar at all, any bungee cord or Velcro strap will secure the wheel to the bar and prevent bouncing or sliding.

 

This. I have a Prinsu I use for a lot of cargo but not my bike. I have a Truck Covers USA rolling tonneau on the bed with yakima racks mounted on it, with Yakima Frontloaders to load the bike (wheel on). The convenience can’t be beat. Finish a ride and within 20 seconds I’m in my truck driving off...
