Audio Nightmare! Need Some Help

I can confirm that the output of the head unit does not have signal level outputs, so you should have had to have some kind of converter on it. I'm no expert, just learned a few things when I was replacing my speakers and that was one of the biggest drawbacks on this unit as it makes it difficult to add aftermarket equipment to it.

 

Interesting.. what converter did you end up going with? Is that something I could install?

 

I did not put an amp in my system, only changed the speakers.

this amp has a high low signal capacity i believe meaning you technically should be able to hook the amp up to a signal.
Theres a few things one can do. Trace the input wires to the source and find out where they are hooked up first

 

I have a TRD Pro and am switching out the speakers in a couple weeks when harnesses and mount for tweeters arrive.

I was going to ask if you swapped out the tweeters too... I've seen a few videos of guys who changed out all the door speakers but left the stock tweeters in the front dash and apparently they are by far the worst part of the stock system.

Beyond that (as I understand it) if he isn't using adapters for the replacement tweeters up front he would had had to splice the wiring on new ones (unless you got those Subaru Kicker ones). The front door speakers run in parallel to the tweeters so if a tweeter isn't going the corresponding door speaker won't be going.

Hard to tell because you need to check all the wiring, etc.

 

Yes, the tweeters are the weak link in the stereo chain. You could probably just change them and be fine w/ the stock system.

Also, yes, whoever installed your system had to use the correct connector (********* has one) as the tweeters and front door are wired in series. So, you will mess things up if you are going to a component type system if you did NOT run more wires to the door speakers from the tweeters.

Sounds like you would have to have had them run the wires for each speakers from the new amp, so I would doubt a stereo shop would mess that up, but you never know.

See if he grabbed the signal from the rear speakers. Before I got my HU I installed a 2ch and front speakers in my truck. Originally grabbed hi level signal from the rear speakers cuz those wires were very accessible. It sounded like dog shit. Rewired and grabbed signal from the front speakers and it sounded way better. The stock HU puts out crap signal to the rear speakers.

 

Your amp should work fine with the stock headunit.

Not knowing what your entire setup is, I would also suspect it is screwed up because the installer did not know about the front tweeters being wired in series with the front woofers. If the installer simply connected the output (from the Amp) back to the factory speaker wire harness, then your front speakers are not going to work properly.

I think you are using the stock/OEM headunit (non-JBL), so we need to know a few more things:
- Are you still using the factory speakers?
- Do you know if the installer ran new wires or reused the factory speaker wires?
- Did you get anything else besides the amp and speakers (such as wiring harness adapters)?
- If so, then what?

- Someone else asked earlier, but do other speakers sound good and you're just having issues with the crackling tweeter?

 

I had the stock door speakers removed & replaced w/ Hertz 2 way 6x9 & a separate tweeter in stock location w/ crossover. I didn’t do an amp or sub. I did away with the radio that was in it & went with a Pioneer DVD/CD Bluetooth touchscreen. Sounds amazing!

 

Sorry for not seeing this sooner but my daughters illness flared up again recently and clinics/doctors have been occupying my time. I did not have a chance to read this entire thread however I will be available for troubleshooting in the evening this weekend or if you let me know the best time to call you I can sometimes call while I am in the parking lot at the clinic.

 

Thanks for the reply! I ended up bringing it to another installer who pointed out that the original tech spliced wires pretty goofy and didn't use a recommended plug adapter. He also pointed out that the previous installer broke the clips from the tweeter covers..

 

I think you found your problem. Let us know how it turns out.

 

New guy put the harness on and said he'll replace the tweeter covers once they get delivered from the dealer.
Old guy got an ear full and said to just send him the receipts and he'll send a check.

 

WOW! the tweeters are the easiest thing in the world to change out! lol They must not have removed the A pillar trim first. lol oops
