What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I guess Im not in a huge rush, so I look at as an opportunity to save some cash and learn how to a rebuild. I enjoy working on my truck, more of a hobby then it is work. but my time at work is worth $45 an hour lol

 

Alright guys I'm wanting to mount a rack to my cab, however I'm not really keen on drilling more holes into my truck... any suggestions on what to do? I've seen people mount using Yakima clips to the door frame but I feel like that doesn't give a lot of support for stuff in the basket

 

I think drilling through will be most secure and give you the lowest profile mounting setup. The Yakima towers seem really tall for my liking.

 

Retrofit a 3rd gen runner roof rack to the cab. Cheap and low-profile.

 

I don’t really go just for the driving, Pine Tigers are the main reason.

I wish. He's a fabricator (Dissent Off Road). He built that a few years ago. Sold the truck to fund other projects. His build thread.

 

Anyone have problems with the skid plate mounting points...mine are bent and the passenger side welded nut has come off.

need to get to the rear shocks tonight. Gonna use a forklift to lift the rear end off the ground by the bumper because I don’t have the tow package...Is that a bad idea? Anybody done this?

 

Stock rear bumper? Probably going to bend it a bit. Get a 4x4 or something similar that spans under the frame rails and pick up on that.

Basically anything will work, only needs to be 4.5 ft long or so to go under the frame. You've got a forklift, surely you have a chunk of I beam or square tube, 4x4, etc laying around?

You also don't have to lift the back end up to replace shocks, just makes it a little easier.

 

I tried. But damn, it wasn’t happening.

 

Just replace them without lifting it. Works just fine.
