    hey tw ,I was Lurking in the forms and saw the 05 and 06 Tacomas have headgasket problems. The Reason I ask this Question is because I just bought a 2006 Tacoma ac Trd sport with 187000 miles and Was wondering is this a problem that I’m Have to look for later down the road?

    Unless it had been repaired already using the updated gaskets... Usually cylinder # 5 or # 6.

    From what I read on multiple forums was that they changed the head gasket to an updated version around 12/05 so I would think you should be on the updated gasket.

    Go to -> http://www.toyota.com

    Click on -> Owners - top of screen to the right.

    Register and once that's done - provide VIN for your truck. If there are dealers service records, you should be able to see them.

    at that mileage, i would think it would have happened already. my 05 started at around 143k miles. apparently it affected the 05s and some of the 06, you may have gotten lucky

    yeah it was a late 2005 change if i remember correctly so it would of only affected 06 trucks made in 05.

    Can you provide a reference? Just curious where you got this info... I have looked for it for quite a while without finding anything.

    Not doubting you at all, that would be good news for me as my truck was made in March of 06. FWIW Im at ~145k with no problems.

    Thats what i have seen people reference. I believe there was a partnumber change for the headgasket around that time. But i do not have any hard evidence.

    Damn, I just made the cut off. Mine was built in Jan 2006. Could that explain why my head gaskets have not blew yet?

    I have yet to change my coolant. I should do that next.

    I've also been curious about this for a while, as I have an 06 w/ 174,000 and have always been kinda concerned about it. Out of curiosity (and the fact I'm not close to my truck to look right now) how can I find the build date? Is it on the truck anywhere?

    Drive side door jam, there is a label that tells you.

    Before buying my Tacoma I looked at an 06 4Runner with build date of 11/05 but could not make a deal that I felt good about if I had to fix the HG right away. Looking back it worked out well as I am really enjoying having a truck again now that I don’t have kids in car seats to haul around.

    Crap. Just checked the build date- November 2005. Here's to hoping it stays strong.

    I wouldn't stress about it, from what I have seen this has effected a relatively small percentage of 05s. By how much people mention it you would think half of the 05s ever built have blown head gaskets, just not the case.

    Haha seriously, that's how it sounds! After 174k I'm hoping I'll continue to be ok.
