We can keep chickens in our area and many of my neighbors do. But our hardware store sells the best free range organic eggs at the front for not much more than the grocery store.

I have also been know to trade helping out a neighbor with car or house work for some good eggs.

    Where's the WTF?
Animals weren't made to live in an 8x8 box. Or even a 12x12 one. Modern commercial 'farming' practices are basically animal cruelty like that.

    Gotcha.
People are finally realizing where their food comes from. The baby boomers didn't give a crap, but younger folks seem to mind.

Yup. All trapped in a space where they can't even turn around. Not to mention every hatchery throws the male baby chickens into a massive meat grinder because they don't produce eggs. Industrial animal agriculture is completely messed up. Don't get me started on the meat and dairy industry...

Yeah, factory farming in general is appalling if you look into it at all, between the living conditions, the hormones, and the drugs/chemicals that the animals are fed. I don't really put much effort into finding organic or free range labels, but I try to buy local whenever I can, since around here that generally means small scale, fresher, better quality, etc. And I don't really buy much meat anyway, just some beef now and then or some wild-caught fish. Everything else is either raised by myself or my family, and is organic and free range. :notsure:

You'd be appalled if you saw what they did to cows and pigs.

Stopped eating animal products two years ago. It is easy now and I'm super glad I did it as I feel way healthier. Only downside is people annoy the hell out of you when you don't eat meat anymore. It's stupid.

Have fun if you have the stomach to watch it.

I don't eat at buffet's anymore. I'm starting to eat less and less meat as well.

    For sure.
    It's cyclical.

Because small-scale farming is more expensive, people buy the mass-produced stuff instead. And small-scale literally cannot keep up with demand, because of population size and distribution. So factory farming makes more facilities.

I'm fortunate enough to live in an area that I can say "If I don't know where it came from, I don't want to eat it" in regards to meat. Anything I can't raise myself I can find in the local butcher shop from a local farm, or something that was caught offshore yesterday.

Edit- It's pretty sweet, and I probably don't appreciate it as much as I should because I'm used to it.
