I like my Cobra 75. It's nice cause you can unhook it and the rest starts hidden. The more important thing is antenna placement and install.

 

I've seen that in the research that I've done; it's all the same requirements but, varies depending on your mounting location. I'm at least starting the process with picking a radio cause the antenna is a personal preference of how it's mounted.

 

Ground plane (placement) and tip tuning (for firestik antennas) is important and gets the most out of a setup

 

I had a firestik on the rear corner of my taco bed and the rear hatch of my FJ. Truck got ok tx/Rx, FJ was meh. Both tuned as best as possible with SWR.

Swapped to a mag mount on the roof of the FJ and it's 10000x better.

 

I had the cobra one where everything is in the mic which was nice, but no pa

 

I'm at 1.0 and 1.1 SWR between 1 and 40 on both my radio's SWR meter and my SWR meter

 

I have a Cobra 75 like Seth has but it doesn't support a CB. Right Channel radio recommends the Uniden 520 as a rugged little basic CB that has the PA function. A lot of good information on this site

Lots of grille swaps on here, I'm surprised you'd even ask! Hell, my Ferd has been cross dressing as an FX4 for a while now. It's not as much of a douche move as putting TRD bedside stickers on a base model!

Are you getting that roll up one, the BAK Revolver? They make some nice tonneau covers.

When I traded the Tacoma, I told them to evaluate it as a stock Tacoma cause that's what they were getting. I told them I was leaving the cap on, but the rest was all coming off. They just asked me to make sure there would be no mounting holes or anything left unfinished but they were otherwise OK with it. I yanked off the lights, sliders, all weather mats, light bar and a few other things. Sold it all off to start the modding on the new truck.

Yes, I called the dealer and told them to install that roll up cover. They had one on a truck in the showroom and it closes real slick. Looks nice.

I'm tempted to go with a 102" whip antenna and tie it down to my light bar for normal driving. Y'all know me, I'm a little ridiculous. The good range and all that makes it sound worth it too...

 

I needed one i could turn the Mic up on simce i mumble/talk quietly a lot. Seems even better now with a Wilson cable

 

Yeah, I actually came across that site while researching and it's given a lot of good information so far

 

I went "old school" and just picked up a new old stock tuned Kraco 23 channel on ePay. My last one was a 23 channel Pace which had a lot of range - much more than most current 40 channel set ups. I'm good to run with you guys as long as you promise to stay off of 24-40...

 

Right now I'm contemplating between mounting it on the bed or seeing what I can DIY for mounting it to my OEM roof rack so it's as high as possible.

 

We usually use channel 4 for off-road

 

Or get some SOS ditch brackets and mount it on the bracket

 

Honestly range is not an issue at all if your CB is tuned well for the trail. Unless of course you're trying to talk and listen a lot on the highway. Sunday was the biggest group I have ever wheeled with and even then we were not that spread apart and could speak to each other almost all the time

 

I had issues hearing you at some points. Dont know if it was your antenna or all the trees/power lines

 

Tie a flag to the top of the 102" so we can find you when you're submarining...
