Some stick on chrome from pep boys
They will care less when prices go back up.

Reach out to local farmers, seriously. We have freezers and we buy beef, pork, and chicken from local farms that aren’t factory based and are still local family owned. Everything tastes better by comparison. Add our hunted venison’s and we can have a years worth of meat for allot less than grocery store prices.

    Pros
    • Tastes better
    • No picking through pathetic choices
    • Costs less
    • Injects cash back into local economy
    • Readily available
    Cons
    • Some logistic expenses such as freezer purchase, additional household electric expenses
    • Don’t get to see the gossip magazine covers when you wait forever to pay for your overpriced meat

With all that said, we don’t eat as much meat as we used to. We’ve started to test the waters with some fish distributors and are always playing with new recipies that are healthier and taste as good, if not better than those in the old Family cookbook. We look for recipies that don’t need exotic ingredients that can’t be grown within a reasonable distance because we are trying to reduce our footprint in certain ways, but also because we are moving into a new home with 12 acres of land and want to expand out from our limited space garden. We aren’t hippies, we’re just sick - literally, I need a kidney transplant - of the BS that’s in foods being sold to us as healthy from the mega corporations.

Do you have any experiences working with animals 8-10(cow) or 2-3(pig) times your weight?
Most of this video is cows stuck in positions that occur because the heard got scared and or was running.
Some of the cows are down and if they don't get up on their feet after falling within a few hours they will never walk again and soon die.
The remainder of the incidences are workers who have anger issues because they don't know how to respond when things don't go their way.

If you want to see how heard animals destroy each other check out this video. The heard mentality is helpful to over come a task but bad for some individuals that get killed along the way.

Absolutely. I have two freezers (one chest and one upright) and they're stuffed every fall. In my experience, the price difference between going to a local butcher and buying local beef/pork by the side vs buying individual cuts at the grocery store is negligible, and the flavor is much better, the meat is generally much leaner, and doesn't have all of the hormones or antibiotics.

Kidneys?!?! You can have one of mine!!! They do magic tricks too!

My right just ejected stone #69.

Our chest freezer is currently stuffed with game including elk, venison, pheasant, and Texas boar. Domestic animals are about 1/4 cow left, a bunch of pork and lamb. All purchased meats are from local farms that we personally know the farmers or have toured their facilities as part of my thesis. The beef is raised on grass and brewers grains from the local craft brewery :)

I’ve been around cows, yes. Have I worked on a farm extensively, no. The cows being beaten and stabbed in cages is not ok. Sure, the workers have anger issues. That’s not my point. The point is that they can do that stuff and get away with it, there is no ramifications for animal cruelty in factory farming.

The logic just doesn’t make sense, we as a society have deemed it ok to eat certain animals and others not. People get all up in arms about the Chinese dog eating festival, yet almost every animal they eat was treated just like those dogs, is speciesism.

If you won’t eat your dog because you find it immoral, why is it ok to eat other animals. This is the crux of my argument. Animal cruelty in factory farming and how much it messed up our environment is just the cherry on top.

Also, let’s not get into how unhealthy the average American is compared to other countries who eat way less animal products. The MAJORITY of people die from food related diseases in the US. That’s insane.
