I have (2) kidde extinguishers that I submitted for the recall.
Thank you for this thread @pra4sno it reminded me to go online
To all that wrote about the date code throwing you off, you are not alone.

According to the attached .pdf on page (1) with the receipt of a replacement, they will request consumers to return the old fire extinguisher.
Does anyone know why they would spend the money to return ship the faulty goods? Is it part of their insurance agreement?

That's interesting, the extinguisher I have that I submitted a claim for has this exact handle design and after form submission it said it was affected and they'd be sending a replacement. Mine isn't red though, it is white so not sure if that has something to do with it...and it was one of the models on the affected list, unless they've ammended it and are in fact not going to send a replacement now lol.

Can they legally recondition the bottles and affix new design handle/valve and resell as new? IF so, then I'd guess that is their aim, but seems more cost prohibitive. Maybe a liability thing. If they asked you to return it but you refuse then any damage/issue is on you at that point.

Then there's no need for me to check the numbers. I have 3 that all have the good handle.

Usually they have to show they made a concerted effort to retrieve or dispose of all affected units. I was working in the bike industry when we had a recall on a fork, we were tracing customers down through the shops that sold the bike to ensure they were getting the recall done, and once the fork was replaced we required the dealers to submit a photo of the "destroyed" fork so they could receive a labor credit and we could prove the fork was replaced. CPSC is pretty strict on this stuff, so they probably dont have a choice to but return the extinguishers.

As for the recall - I submitted 3 back on 11/26 - just got an email today saying the most comparable replacement is backordered... but no estimate on when they will be available.

I've received my replacements. The new ones are all metal. I know it says to send the old ones back, but I'm wondering if we really have to.

I submitted claims for one 3 LB BC kitchen, one 3lb USCG approved BC, one 3lb BC, and one 2 lb BC. All claims were accepted.

A couple of weeks ago I received a 3lb BC kitchen extinguisher so I boxed up the old kitchen extinguisher for return. Yesterday I received a 5lb ABC. What in the fuk am I supposed to do with that? I already have 10lb and 5lb ABCs and don't need another. It's useless to me. Guess I'll box up the shitty little 2lb BC in exchange.

They definitely are a bit mixed up over there.

I submitted mine (3) a while back, got an email the other week saying they were backordered with no eta... two days later two showed up, then the day after a 3rd showed up. Last week 2 more showed up and then a 6th just the other day. So I submitted one claim for 3 units and ended up with 6... need to call them.

Also a note - you can NOT drop them at any FedEx/Kinkos etc, they either need to go directly to a hub or you need to call FedEx and arrange a pick up per the instructions on the sheet.

Thanks for the heads-up. I got lucky. My 3 have horizontal pins, so not affected.

Just curious- was Kidde actually enforcing the return shipment? They didn’t really have any controls in place, and the recall site was definitely rushed. I did what’s safe and returned the recalled unit within a few weeks..., but I could have maybe had a spare extinguisher.

I was delivered two. I only sent one in but ended up with two and sent them a message on Facebook. They told me just to keep it.

The handle on the one I turned in certainly felt cheap, brittle and crappy... the new one has a much better metal handle almost like a commercial version.

I trust kiddie fire extinguishers about as far as the toss right into my trashcan. You should all do yourselves a favor and buy amerex fire extinguishers the next time around. As someone in the fire protection industry amerex is widely considered too be the best. Not only that but they can be purchased at around the same cost as a kiddie and will likely be the last fire extinguisher youll ever have too purchase, and too put the icing on the cake you'll be supporting an american company with a far superior product than the foreign garbage kiddie comes up with. Even kiddies industry grade fire extinguisher with the metal handle couldn't stand the abuse ive seen amerex take. Such as falling 4-5 stories off a cat walk in a film studio, getting hit by forklifts or even cars backing up into fire extinguishers in parking structures. Oh and amerex even makes a camo painted fire extinguisher for some of you guys that are into that sort of thing.

Yup. Called three times over 6 months. Finally called them out on FB and I got an email the next day.

Then they still said one of my fire extinguishers wasn't covered under the recall and I sent them a highlighted copy of their own recall list and voila... replaced!

found facebook to be a much more successful route, especially the first week when the website kept timing out. got the email from them and had replacements in a week.
