Not sure if rokblokz are thinner than the factory flaps, but if they arent you may have problems. I know the flaps have been a sticking point for some.

Very close to pulling the trigger on these but was wondering a couple things.

It seems like most tires this size are mud terrains. I wanted something better for snow so I was looking at the Cooper Discoverer S/T and the Discoverer S/T Maxx. Are there any other decent tires in this size for snow?

The S/T Maxx seem better, but they are also heavy as hell. I think 57 or 59 pounds, Load Range E. How badly will this affect my MPG? The Discoverer S/T isn't as heavy.

 

I have the 255/85/16 on mine for just over 200 miles and a 3 inch lift. Dash says 18.7 mpg and my gas gauge is just hit a half tank. Mix driving in Houston traffic.

I have ran these tire in the past in Wisconsin winter and never had a issue with them in the snow.

 

Thanks for the response, are you referring to the S/T Maxx or just the regular S/T?

 

S/t maxx is a hybrid of an A/T and M/T which I own myself. There is no specific "snow tire" in 255s, however they do come studded for winter. People run both tires and do just fine getting around, but will never outperform a true snow tire as the materials of both are different. I get 17MPG in the city, and highway 20-22MPG, however it all depends on your driving habits and your area of roads. I wouldn't get get 255s if your worried about MPG.

 

Good point. How about torque and speed? Has it made the truck more sluggish? I can live with lower MPGs, it's a truck with big tires.

 

I had P265/75r16 falkens wildpeaks previously, the power feels just fine as it was before despite the weight difference.

If it were 285s....different story there.

 

The 255s have all the pros of the 285s....
Only real CON of 255s which is subjective is the wide stance that everyone seems to go for, but MPG is better and we don't need to regear.

Was planning on putting 1 inch wheel spacers to make the stance a little wider. Has anyone done this? Obviously not necessary, only for looks.

 

You can but they you run the risk of rubbing, try it out and let us know.

 

I'm almost more conserned about drivability with the taller/heavier tire making truck sluggish but the mileage seems to show they don't really slow the truck down much.
I ran the numbers on weight: Keeping the stock wheels and getting the 255/85/16 ie. 59 lb ST MAXX adds about 21 lbs per wheel over stock. You could go with a lighter 17" wheel like FN wheels at around 19 lbs and then buy the 255/80/17 ST maxx at 58 lbs. Would increase weight by 16 lbs per wheel. That size is also cheaper for some reason. Another option with the 17" size is Toyo Open Country AT II which was just realized and comes in at 50 lbs. Then you are increasing per wheel 8 lbs if you go with a 19 lb wheel. But of course cost goes up. I'm leaning toward keeping original wheels.

Ahh interesting, I always assumed pushing out the wheel alleviates rubbing, but it seems that it can actually introduce rubbing/more issues. I'll need to inspect my wheel wells as to why this happens.

 

What about float? Also, why wouldn't you need to regear? You might live with the changes, but you are changing the outside diameter of the tire and essentially the gearing of the truck.... people regear to make up for the fact they went to taller tires.
