BFG All terrains

Ok, so about a few weeks ago, I posted a thread about 265/75/16 and MPG. Ever since going from a Radial Emerald all terrain 265/70/16 to a BFG all terrain 265/75/16 my MPG has gone down. Ppl have been telling me they have been getting average MPG with the SAME SIZE TIRE (265/75/16) about 17 or 280 to a tank.
So my question is, what do you guys get with this specific BFG AT KO 265/75/16 tire?

Im getting about 250-260 to a tank. Before i got about 280-290 with a Radial Emerald all terrain (265/70/16). Am I going crazy or is it just the BFG all terrian tires and not the size?

 

I personally have no experience with BFG All- Terrains but i know that they are heavier than standard tires.

 

I went from BFG AT 265/70/17 to BFG AT 285/70/17 and I took about a 1.5mpg hit.

 

i have 285/75/16 BFG AT's and i get close to 250 per tank

 

I don't know what Radial emerald weigh but the BFG All terrain in 265/75/16 weigh around 53 lbs per tire that's 13 lbs heavier than the stock BFG rugged trails weigh.

Here is some date comparing your old size tire to your new size tire. Every inch you go up in size loses about .75 to 1.0 mpg efficiency. If your old tire weighed around 40 lbs making a 13 lb difference and adding one inch tire height I would say a minimum loss of 1 mph is about par.
I have BFG All Terrain 265/70/16 and get 21mpg at 65 mph mixed driving 75% hwy and 25% between 40 and 50mph.

When I changed tire size, I used my GPS during a long road trip (200+ miles) and tracked 100 miles, twice to see how much I was off in regards to my odometer. My truck showed 100 miles, and my GPS showed 103. Second test: GPS showed 100, truck showed 97. I am about 3% off on my truck's odometer mileage so I calculate that when I figure my MPGs each tank (before I enter the miles into fuelly.) Odd though, my speedometer is pretty spot on...

I went from 265/70-16 to 265/75-16...nothing big, but similar to what the OP changed. Don't forget to check out http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php to see the differences of the two tire sizes.

 

i have 265/70/16 and i get about 19mpg,so yea its not great.thats what it had on it when i bought it.

 

2004 Xtra Cab with exact same tires: 17.6 around town and dirt road driving

 

with bigger tires you cant get an accurate mpg with your odometer because it'll be off.

 

I lost around 1.5mpg instantly when I went to the AT from stock RT, same size.

 

Well im about to get a new fuel filter and change my spark plugs. Havent done that since i bought the thing ( a little over a year ago ). So we'll see

 

Ever think that the way that you drive your truck could be slightly more aggressive, which would mean slightly worse gas mileage, than the people that gave you their numbers?

I have BFG AT KO 265/75/16s and my Odo still says between 300 and 350mi per tank. Most of it highway. Because of the larger tire size, it actually traveled a few more miles than that.
So I guess factoring in everything; I get around 18-19 mpg highway.

I had 32" BFGs and a 3RZ engine and I got like 18 in the winter. Also had manual tranny tho. I'll let you know my MPG in the winter when the ATs go back on.

 

My 01 DC V6 has 35's and I get about 16 mpg now, but I've got super light rims, so that helps a lot!!

My old 00 ext cab V6, manual tranny with 31x10.5's got around 19mpg.

It's all in how you drive it, I get a lot less if I have a lead foot!

 

I went from Toyo Open Countrys to BFG AT KO's and seem to be getting better MPG...
