Just giving a heads up about a shitty dealership here in san diego. Toyota of San Diego ( off mission gorge rd) has changed since i bought my tacoms new from them in 08. I went to get a tundra from them and they wouldn't give me what i wanted for my tacoma ( no worries, but what they offered was ridiculous) and went on to tell me that Toyota Trucks are not selling well right now and that they wont pay for them.(I watched a buddy trade in his tundra to them for a new one, they gave him 14k and told him that they were upside down, they sold it on their lot for 26k(an 04 cc with 46k)

I left the stealership and went about my business, i got three calls from them the next day starting at 9a.m. Even after i told them that i no longer wanted to do business with them, because i was insulted at the offer for my truck (they said that it is hard to sell lifted tacoma's because nobody wants them) So ive since sold my truck to another dealership and was taken care of extremely well, got everything I wanted for my beloved Tacoma. Thinking that it was a done deal, I got 2 phone calls today from the same salesperson at Toy of SD. When i told him I already bought another truck, He wanted to know what i got for my tacoma. I told him he should have bought it to find that out, and said i want nothing to do with their dealership, good day and hung up.( now mind you, i have bought 2 cars from them in the past 8 yrs, and up until about the past year, had all of my services taken care of by them

So this fool calls me back and we go back and forth and tell him this is exactly why i dont want to do any business with them. Why is he calling me after I told his manager on sunday that i want nothing to do with them. Hung up again

Now ive owned 2 tacomas over the past 11 yrs, and absolutley loved them. The only reason I got rid of my 08 was because i needed something bigger to haul my desert toys out to the desert.

Just a rant, but letting people know about this dealership and would recommend that you stay away. Hoperfully if you take your business to them, you get handled alot better,

    PJ

If I read your post right, you were lowballed on your trade in and you now think that they are a crappy dealership? Really? Perhaps your post should be titled **Bad Salesman* instead. The sales guys are a dime a dozen, and as we all know their experience varies considerably.

The dealership as a whole though is actually very good. They continuously maintain an A+ rating from the BBB. And their service advisers are pretty competent and seem to work hard. The service manager Jeremy is a top notch guy too.

My only complaint is that their parts department (per policy probably) always charges more for parts than their neighboring dealerships.

In the end I do hope you got what you wanted on your new truck, and it always pays to shop around.

They gave your buddy 14K and sold it for 26K?? Sounds like your buddy should have held out for more if he thought he wasn't getting a good deal. The dealer is there to make money, not friends.

I've had nothing but good dealings with Toyota San Diego. I haven't done anything with them lately though as I'm up in Rancho Bernardo now. I agree with Crom, the service reps I've dealt with there have been great. Had my body work done there after a rear-end collision. Again great work.

Bought my truck there in '07. Had the suspension TSB done with no hassles.

some of this, a little of that
So you went to a dealership and did not like what they offered you? You are mad that they gave your buddy 14k and sold it for a profit? I completely agree how dare they.

Come on this is how car lots work, if you don't like it find a different lot like you did.

Before they appraised my truck, he asked what i wanted for it, and i told him. i also said that if they couldnt give it to me, no worries, just bring back my keys and ill move on. When he came back with the offer, it was seriously way outta range, i was like no worries, ill be on my way. They wouldnt give me my keys or registration back. We went back and forth on that, and i left, we shook hands i went on my way. Got a call the next day, manager asked what they could do to make the deal, we went back and forth, To spare a long story, told them i was taking my business elsewhere, and please dont call me again.

Got 2 calls today from the dealership, the first one was about making a deal, told them i already got a new truck, they asked what i got for my truck, I told them they should have bought it to find out, but that i was happy with my deal i got, said goodbye and hung up the phone. Got called right back, and he wanted to know what i got for my trade. Told him it was none of his business and went back and forth....

I would have said bad salesman, but it was 3 different people that kept calling me. But in the end, i got exactly what i wanted and am pretty happy, I also have some trd seat covers and a 17 inch moto metal wheel mounted on a BFG 285-70-17 (only 1200 miles on it) available if anyone wants them.

I don't think it was out of line to get pissed when they keep calling after you've got a new vehicle to simply find out what you've got. They need to focus on closing some new sales instead of investigating ones they blew.

Oh yeah, i told him to hold out, but he was like whatever. The reason i brought it up was, they told me, the reason for the low offer was that they wouldnt be able to sell it on their lot or make money on it( which whatever) Then i told them about the tundra deal, they went on to call me a liar and say that it didnt happen, i told em, you keep records of sales go look it up. They looked at me for a minute and i said alirght, shook hands with the dude and walked on.

Sounds like a sales manager issue to me.

He's the one that calls the shoots. He's the one that should have PERSONALLY called you back an hour after you stepped off the lot, and thrown you a better bone. Managers like yours don't last long.

And, yes "lifted toyota trucks don't sell" is a bullshit line just to keep the trade-in price down.

    Grats on the new truck!

Thanks bro. Yeah they were trying the whole lifted truck thing hard, But had a lifted prerunner on the lot new, with a ready lift and pro comp rims and tires... package was under 2500 ( I know the shop they take their trucks to get them lifted) and they marked it up to $5879.00... crazy

Crappy deal about your experience with the Toyota San Diego salesman. Salesmen at dealerships are hit and miss, dude. Sounds like the dealership's management is good though. Do your homework and come prepared for war, and know that sometimes it's luck o' the draw

+1 for Toyota Carlsbad. Had a great experience buying with them. No BS whatsoever, I sent them an email and got a quote for $500 below invoice and picked it up the same day. Only pressure was from the sales manager, who got all upset when I wouldn't buy her extended warranty for $3k

Maybe the dealership had a overstock on your type of truck and they didn't want it. They shouldn't have hassled you after you told them you already sold the truck though. Tell them what dealer you sold it to if they wanna buy it from them.
