2014 Key Fob Help

I searched, sold my 1st Gen Double Cab PreRunner and bought a 2014 Double Cab 4x4.

Can I use the factory fobs for the 2004 for the 14? If not, what are my options? I need a new transponder key also. I literally got one key with my truck.

How long ago did you buy it with incomplete pieces?

Go back to the salesman and Firmly request the additional Key and Fob you should have gotten when you purchased the vehicle.

They aren't cheap. You could get a FOB off ebay cheap and program it yourself. The key willbe a bit more at the dealer.

 

I bought it last night, sales guy couldn't find them, they are swapping the wheels and tires between vehicles this morning and agreed to make me 2 fobs and 2 new keys.

I admit I had to be a dick about it, especially since I had 4 fobs and 6 factory keys for the trade.

 

Sometimes you have to be a dick to get your just rewards. I would refuse to buy any vehicle without two keys and fobs just like it cane with from the factory.

What color is the key you got with the truck?

That's good. Friend of mine only got a grey key which is a valet key and had to get a master key cut and programmed at the dealer. I think it was around 3 or 4 hundred bucks. With the master key you can program more keys and I believe fobs at home with it. There are a couple YouTube videos that show how to get into programming mode by inserting the key taking it out a few times and opening and closing the door.

 

The 2012 and up do not come with the gray valet key.

 

That's good to know, can new keys and fobs be programmed by the owner the same as 05 to 11?

 

Let's hope so, I ordered the key maker and 2 keys and 2 fobs from eBay.

 

The key FOBS are easy. The keys may require a locksmith or Toyota... I'm not sure about the key with a security chip, mine doesn't have a chipped security key.

 

Key FOB Programming steps:

The vehicle should meet the following conditions before proceeding; *The key is NOT in the ignition *Driver’s door is OPEN (The others are CLOSED) *Drivers door UNLOCKED (Not necessary for Echo)
1) INSERT and REMOVE the key from the ignition cylinder, TWICE within 5 seconds
2) CLOSE and OPEN the driver’s door TWICE within 40 seconds
3) INSERT and REMOVE the key into the ignition cylinder
4) CLOSE and OPEN the driver’s door TWICE within 40 seconds
5) INSERT the key in the ignition and CLOSE the driver’s door
6) Turn the ignition switch from LOCK to ON and back to LOCK at approx. 1 sec. Intervals “ 2” times to enter REWRITE MODE
7) REMOVE the key from the ignition (The door locks are cycled LOCK-UNLOCK within 3 seconds TWICE to let you know that you have selected REWRITE MODE)
8) Within 40 seconds press BOTH the LOCK & UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1 second (Press and release).
9) Within 3 seconds press and release the LOCK button on the same transmitter (The door locks will cycle ONCE if the transmitter was recognized and TWICE if it was not recognized {if you get two cycles start over}).
10) Within 40 seconds repeat step 8 and 9 with any other transmitters you wish to program
11) One of the following will END the Rewrite mode; *40 seconds elapses *Drivers door is opened *Key inserted into the ignition cylinder *4 transmitters are registered

 

Just out of curiosity, why did you have and or need 6 keys and 4 fobs? I don't think I have ever had more than four keys total for anything I've owned.

I bought the truck with 2 keys and 1 working fob, ordered 2 new fobs, had keys made for them. Then I bought 2 of the all in one key/fobs from one of the members here. Then he offered the all in one flip key/fob and I bought one of those. Wore out the first all in one, quit working, chunked it, daughter lost the original key and fob, so that is where I was left. I also had the original plastic credit card key uncut for the truck, that my dealer was happy to cut for me.

 

No I do not.

And if I did they wouldn't be driving my truck. Aw HELL NO.

I remember my teenage years and early 20's ALL too well, should of done some drugs or something.

Me aside there's only 4 people in the world I would let drive my truck, one of which doesn't even live in this country, another lives over 1k miles away, and a third has his own Tacoma so no real point in needing mine the forth is more or less married to the third so she shouldn't ever need my Taco either.

So the chances of me needing a second key are... slim.

I only got one key fob and master key when I bought my truck a few month back, dealer was about 250 for the fob, I found a key fob on here for 15$ and programmed myself so I’m pretty stoked on life right now

 

I was looking at that same $300-400 bill a few years back when I dropped a buddies fob down an ice fishing hole - plus a tow to the dealership. Looked up a local locksmith and he showed up on site and had a new fob programmed in no time for about $100. The man should have worn a cape. Worth looking into before you shell out dealership prices.
