Oil seal not seating after wheel bearing install

Just installed a dorman wheel bearing and hub assembly and after finishing, the cv dust seal isn’t mating all the way with the new national inner hub seal I installed.. everything is bolted down where it should and back together fine but I don’t like the clearance. Dorman seal is on the left and national is on the right. Is this what’s causing the issues?

Did you replace both seals dust cover and inner oil seal? Or just the inner oil seal?

 

Just the inner. I wish I had the cv seal too.. I totally forgot about that one when buying parts. What’s the part number for that? Do you think this is fine for now? And should that other seal that came with the assembly work better you think?

 

I just did these with my lower control arms. Here's what the old ones out look like. I'll grab a picture of the new ones tomorrow it's 28° out there right now.

Thanks man. I may just get a new cv dust seal and replace the old one and then replace the national seal with the one that came with my bearing and see if that closes the gap

 

I would definitely replace the CV dust seal. It's the first line of defense for the bearing.

Update: CV dust seal was bent towards engine bay creating that gap. Replaced that seal and its back to normal!

 

I actually had this happen after I recently replaced my driver side wheel bearing assembly with Dorman’s also. I managed to fix the problem after tearing apart the hub twice thinking that it wasn’t seated correctly. Turns out the hub was seated correctly the first time and in order to close the gap on the dust seal on the back of the CV joint if you take a end of a screwdriver or a wrench in tap around at the dust cover the kind a tap it back in place the gap will close up a little bit.

 

Sorry to revive this thread but i'm having the same gap on both sides after replacing my hubs/ wheel bearings! What exactly do you mean when you say the seal was bent? and how could that have happened? Mine was seated up perfectly before, with the old hubs. The seals mated up fine when everything was loose so it makes me think theres nothing wrong with the seals. I could literally watch the gap form as I tightened the bolts on the new hub. Makes me think the CV stub isn't pulled all the way through the hub but I put the axle nut on and hit it with the impact to pull it through and thats the point where it stopped (on both sides) so I didnt want to keep going and put too much torque on the bearing (of course I loosened and then torqued to spec).
