Dealer "No Lifts on 2018"

I'm surprised toyota hasn't done this already, a lot of other companies have this already.

 

False. There's no true orders anymore. You have to wait for an allocation and that's all you get. TBH DCLB OR with tech seems pretty simple. I was able to get an Inferno DCSB OR 6MT with black/orange interior and tech with a moonroof in a measly 15 week wait.

 

He wasn't talking about disabling, he was talking about a modification to allow it to keep it operational. Could be illegal to do a lift now, might not pass inspection.

And then someone with a lift forgets to turn off safety sense and cause a crash ? Would it pass inspection with a lift ? Airbags are needed for inspection.

 

I bet it's a pretty high percentage of Tacomas that have some sort of lift.

 

I wonder if this will affect sales? If so, it may disappear in the 2019s, particularly if the Ranger doesn't have it. However, it seems that you could just move it down to the position it was in stock. I have no idea how that would work, but if lifting moves it too far up, then why couldn't you just move the "sensor" down? I have a 2017, but only lifted it 1", so it all is not problem for me.

 

No matter what, there will be lifted 2018’s. You’re not going to stop people from lifting their taco’s. Just not going to happen.

 

By 2022 99% of all manufacturers have agreed to install collision avoidance.

 

I bet that after someone has tested a lifted Taco with TSS backwards and forwards, up and down, it will work the same as an unlifted truck. We'll see.

With Toyota saying it's wrong if someone causes a serious accident I wouldn't want to be that individual.
I myself wouldn't take the legal risk.

 

The Tacoma is one of the most popular offroad vehicles on earth, and is one of the most popular to modify. It is surrounded by a massive following of enthusiasts. People are not going to stop lifting them no matter what.

 

In regards to anyone saying to just "move the sensor" it's not quite that simple. FWIW we have the Subaru version of this in our cars, and it's freaking sweet. The adaptive cruise control makes long highway drives much less tiring.

TSS works off sensors and a camera. These are set/put to certain angles from the manufacture, lifting the vehicle would make it difficult for the truck to see what it normally would see. An example, use your phone to take a photo, hold it straight up and down with an object in the bottom of the frame. Now lift it, the object wouldn’t be in frame any longer. Lifting the truck will not void warranty on TSS, refer to SEMA. It will however make TSS not work 100% and that is the dealer’s issue. They have to make sure everything works 100% when selling a truck, because if it doesn’t, they are liable.

Let me add, I personally don’t think a 3-6’ will really effect TSS enough to cause any issue.

you are correct but it will stop many from buying IF they don't get it resolved for many do not want the risk if in accident to be at fault and sued. Yes some wont care until it happens then they lose everything. There are too many sales that will be lost due to this. I have an 18 due next week and now I am thinking of telling them until this changes I will pass on it now. Im trying to get more info. My dealer has lifted already an 18 tundra and sold it but maybe that was before they knew.

It’s now 2017 and EVERYONE driving a Tacoma to this point has done just fine without TSS sensors. If the sensors were vital, you would not have the option to turn them off.

 

There will be a work-around, I wouldn't let it stop me from buying one.

 

Exactly. People have been driving trucks without fancy sensors since Christ was in short pants.
