Is this normal to have this much play in the tonneau when latched? I can lift it a few inches all along the back when it's latched. That's at the tightest setting too- the nut is completely tightened in each latch.

I contacted Extang and they mailed me 2 new latches for the rear but the same results. Great tonneau other than you can look inside the bed and possibly unlatch it with the tailgate up. Just wonder if others have the same issue and have figured out a way to make it more secure.

Yup, mine's the same. Not really a cover for keeping things secure, just dry. I've had two of these--one on my 05 Tundra and now the new one. I think it's looser on this truck just because the tundra's bed rails were even all around, unlike the tacoma with the lower tailgate. Great cover though. Especially here in NH in the winter when snap or velcro type covers shrink and you can't get em back on...

Can't you adjust that by threading the latch on further?

I have an EFX trifold, which is basically the same as the extang, and the latches are basically attached to a long bolt. The more times you rotate the latch clockwise, the higher is gets on the mount, and the tighter it latches to the bed.

No the rear ones are spring loaded and even at the tightest setting on the nut/bolt it offers too much play. The front ones tighten by turning clockwise- I guess I could always get 2 more like the front and put on the back. Just wouldn't be quick-release but would be more secure.

Does the trifecta latch not look like this? My quick disconnects are threaded. EFX tri-fold.

Nope... the new trifecta has a springloaded handles... you pull down on it to de-latch. I personally think Advantage TorzaTop design is a little better... either case, someone could cut the cover anyway so I wouldnt be too worried about it:

No they aren't. I like that latch design though. Extang uses a spring latch that you pull straight down (like you're milking a cow).

Maybe you could drill new holes in the bracket that goes in the bed rail to lower it?

mine has the same amount of play.

when i first installed it i could lift it up and unhook them with the tail gate locked. I tightened the bolts on the spring loaded handles and it helped a little...

I was ready to do that, but I realized I wouldn't be able to tighten the allen screws (they'd be behind the solid part of the bracket then.) I do wish the brackets mounted a little lower and further away from the cover though. That would help.

But the cover stays on just fine so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah it stays on tight, just wish it couldn't be lifted to see what's inside. Oh well, my only complaint with it.

Someone is lifing your tonneu to see what's inside, they already made up their mind to steal whatever in it. Soft covers are good only to keep good people honest. I wouldnt worried about it, or get a rugged hard cover.
