    My DD is a 2008 Subaru Forester. I need more room! :) I test drove the new Foresters along with the Outback... I hated all the technology! I want to drive my car, not my car drive me. I write this with total respect that some people will want this sort of thing and enjoy it, but why for us who don't are we forced to have it? :p

    I thought the SAME thing, even during the test drive. I didn't trust it and didn't want it, so my DD Subaru doesn't have my. My wife's Impreza does, and after using it more it grew on me, and now I wish my car had it. Really only for the adaptive cruise control.

    This is good to hear. But to your point about dealers telling you not to modify, this is a bit off. They do a lot of lifts and were not happy when he was telling me this news.

    And so yes you do a lift you fuck up the TSS.
    Is this really any different than how putting larger tires can throw off the speedo and affect brakes?
    Aftermarket bumper can screw with airbags (other than ARB since they test with airbags)

    Plenty of shit we do to our trucks can screw with things from factory...hence why they void warranty. Doesn't matter what a dealer tells you, at the end of the day Toyota Corp warranty is pretty clear, anything outside of OEM or TRD parts is not warrantied. Even if the dealer does it for you. Sure plenty of dealers will do a lift and then still warranty shit, but go to a different dealer and they won't. Its just that one dealer trying to keep a customer and hiding it.

    Regardless of whether it screws with TSS its not a safety feature that cannot be disabled like air bags or abs. There's a button on the dash for it to be active, nor is it a feature that if it was disabled will cause you to crash.

    So moral of this, either lift and be happy with the lift and say fuck you to technology.
    OR just get a 2017 where you dont need to deal with this shit and get it cheaper lol.

    although they might have told you that. People at toyota corp are not engineers or mechanics and usually are completely oblivious to vehicles and their mechanics, just saying.

    So I'd take what they said as a grain of salt, besides its not like they said 'go ahead and lift TSS will still work'

    If anything have you had said dealer do a lift for you now and did TSS still work?

    My Silverado had collision alert and lane assist and all that crap on it. Put a 8 inch lift on it, and it all still worked.

    Please--- if you don't have any real time experience on these systems your opinions are just speculation!
    Actually if Toyota uses what Subaru uses --they are very precise. I just today took a 100 mile plus trip at 70+ mph most of the time.(in our 15 Outback w/eyesight. I am always amazed how the car senses the car in my lane in front of me, while not showing the car in the neighboring lanes -- this is while going 70+ and going around curves in the highway. Point here is, for the "system to track and hold the car in my lane and not get "mis-lead" by cars at the same distance in neighboring lanes, points to the precise "aiming" of the system.

    Amen, and I second this -- we were very uneducated on the Eyesight Subaru system -- we love it -- If I could have added it to my 17 taco --it would have it. I needed to move out my 02 F150 otherwise I would have waited -- I probably trade up to the new system in a few years

    FWIW, when I lifted my Hemi GC, it wreaked havoc on the Stability control and ABS/Traction control system. The local Jeep dealer told me it was a symptom of the nanny electronics on the newer Jeeps, and they couldn't lift them any more...
    Until I installed an AEV ProCal ( https://secure.aev-conversions.com/shop/procal-module )
    Solved all of the issues and it ran like a top (until unrelated electronics and rust killed it.. The Jeep curse).

    So, YMMV, but I'd suspect the aftermarket will make it all work, like they have for other off-road vehicles with all the new electronic gizmos ;)

    We bought a 2017 Forester 2.5i earlier this year. Base as base can be. Best part, almost no technology beyond what is dictated by the nannies at EPA and DOT. It has a real stick shift 6 speed, a radio that does AM/FM/CD/MP3, blinkers with big windows to see your blind spot. The radio does integrate with phone if you want (hand's free is nice, I'll admit).

    It has a back up camera, which is a law I think now. Doesn't have any of the adaptive radar, has zero beeps or warning lights when you decide to do something. It's honestly like driving a 1995 Toyota with a nice radio, it really is. It's seriously got less nanny shit than my 2008 Tacoma. Plus, made in Japan still.

    The one and only thing we don't like is the fuel map is a little wonky for a stick shift, the rev hang is annoyingly long. But we've adapted to it so it's grown less irritating. On the WRX Subaru will flash your ECU to get rid of the hang but they haven't got an ECU retune for the non-turbo 2.5L AFAIK. We have really enjoyed that car so far, more than I expected (its our first Subaru). I kind of wish Subaru would start making Toyota trucks, I'd buy one right now. They actually had 4 base models on the lot, no waiting for allocation or any of that.

    Not exactly sure about the states, but Vehicle Stability Control, ABS brakes, and traction control are legally required in Canada. I would imagine your 2017 base model Subaru has all of those “nanny features” as well, which is about the extent of the “nanny features” your 2008 Tacoma would have had. Not really sure of your point. Please elaborate.
