I hauled 1/2 ton of gravel in my 1st Gen with the steel bed and LineX no problem. I would not do it in my 16. The bed gets all fucked up just loading my kayak. It's OK to acknowledge the truck is not perfect.

That's odd. I mean I load my bed up with about 400lbs of camping gear, a 70lb rack, 120lb tent, 2 kayaks and fill the cab on trips and I've personally not had any issues.

And like I've said, I've taken my tacoma with a Lincoln classic welder (About 1400lbs) with fuel and tools to go weld in the hills of by and the bed held up just fine.

No denying people have had some innocents, but as a whole from the mfg the highest rating I believe on the new tacoma is 1400-1600 lbs payload. And that's with the factor of safety figured in from Toyota.

Can you, yes. Would I want to? That's a whole different talk. But in terms of durability I wouldn't be worried.

Personally I'd go up to a half ton and after that I'd be looking to borrow a truck that is designed to haul.

I'm talking aesthetics rather than capacity or capability. It just gets all scratched up and looks like crap.

Don't mean to beat this to death :deadhorse: but my 2004 with LineX I could take to the car wash spray out and it looked like new.

There has been a TSB for the front end kazoo noise for a while. Bring it up at the dealer next time you're in.

Fair enough. Is there anything out there for our beds yet ? I just use my rubber mat. I use the work truck foir moving material so I don't have to worry about a shovel

I traded in a non 4x4 2015 sport for a 17 off road 4x4 3.5l. Love this truck way better!

I just got a 2017 sr5 lb and have 700 miles on it. Paint has filling blurry issues, orange peel is so bad you can feel it, door jambs are dry, windows rattle half way down, truck pulls to right after having it aligned twice, driver seat making popping noise, clunk when you stop abruptly, rear diff whines, power flutters when you get on it, trans shift searching I don' like. This is my 5th Toyota and only one with problems.

I have a 2017 TRD Sport Doublecab. My 2nd Tacoma (Prior was a 2007 SR5). I like the truck. It's just different and most of the problems you read about can be solved by being persistent with the dealer or doing a little legwork. Once you dial it in, it's a fine truck. I also think that 95% of all Tacoma owners have zero issue. A buddy of mine bought one and has ZERO complaints. I bought mine (similar to his) and noticed all the quirky things about it right off the bat.... but I'm picky. To each their own I guess.... so I've tried to make mine perfect for me. That's another good thing about Tacoma - there are pretty much unlimited options of what you can do with it to customize it because there is so much support for it and because of this forum. It's probably THE most active auto forum.

He was given a 30 day ban on Sept 12, 2017. Last time he logged in is October 12, 2017. Signature now says he bought a 4 Runner. His name still has a line through it indicated he is still banned.

Don't what the hell is going on

It is a bit of a pain in the ass, but I used a heavy blanket in the bed the last time I hauled gravel so that it would not get scratched to death.

Are you talking about the control arms? I had that done. I also had the door seals replaced. Is there another one out there that I haven’t heard about?

I was actually thinking about taking the plastic liner out, doing LineX and then putting the liner back in. Dumb?

    That's not a liner. It's the bed.

Love my 2017 Tacoma 3.5 auto double cab, short bed, silver, with 17 inch wheels. Had it about 9 months. Just short of 10000 miles.

But kayaks are the biggest things I haul. And not much offroad.

One thing. Get the ShiftSense Pro. It takes care of the tendency to upshift and gear hunting.

Well after a little catching up I appreciate the honesty and information everyone has put in. After a few calls today it is unlikely I will be going to a 3rd gen Tacoma. Costs are high and the ROI is non-existent. I will keep looking. Until then I will keep my 5 lug 2.7.
