The 1st gen probably didn’t have linex stock.

Is there a reason you can’t linex the plastic bed?

Yes. There is a reason you never see it on the post 2004 Tacomas. It will not adhere properly to the plastic and has too much flex.

I was not. I was considering downsizing for financial reasons but the price of the Tacoma is too high for what I want in the truck. I will keep my 3/4 ton for now. Maybe an option in the future.

Yes. Allow. I created the thread so I have the right to grant you one thread hijack for one post. So it seems you have wasted it on a childish trolling response. Oh well.

    Next one isn't free.

You could have simply asked me for my source like a civilized person instead of showing your ass. You can have your thread back boss.

I sold mine after a slightly longer period of ownership (~18 months). I am so happy I dont have to deal with it anymore. I would not recommend this truck to anyone. I dont think it's a "Friday rush job" as much as a model that was rushed to production without proper engineering, testing, or quality controls.

It will take quite a bit for me to consider another Toyota or Tacoma. The corporate response, or lack of, was frustrating but not nearly as frustrating as the dealership run-around every.single.time. I went in.

    Since you asked all nicelike...

Comments from I worked for Arma-Tough, doing spray-in liners, for a few years right out of high school. The stuff we used was similar to Line-X... We could never get it to bond with any plastics or composites. I'd go with the Bed Rug as well

There were some pics floating around this board of someone who did (you would have to do some searching because I do not remember what thread it was in). It was awful. It was chipping off everywhere. I don't know if it is possible to prep the bed right to get a decent bond. Only a spray on liner company could tell you that and most likely all they want is the sell so they will tell you it is just fine. However the Toyota mat for the bottom of the bed is awesome. Nothing moves on that mat unless it is on wheels. Hell on a couple of occasions it has been a pain in the A** because it doesn't move. twocents_8573fa088143d9861cd7e3ee604882fa35e83f8a.gif

Go to a LineX installer and ask them if they will warranty the installation. They might. Mine said no.

So I will tell you that I love my truck, but everything that you listed is all true. With that said, this is honestly all the worst aspects of the truck. First off, nothing from Toyota is just slapped together and sent out the door from the factory. It is a truck and it is built like one. The differential issues were only on a handful of the trucks and they issued a recall for the issue. The engine shuttering, poor shifting, and acceleration are all contributed to poor electronic control of these functions. From what I hear @OVTune has an incredible tune for the 3rd Gen, but it still needs some work and he is consistently putting out updates to the tune as he deciphers the illogical tune by Toyota little by little. The amazing thing is that these trucks are supported incredibly by aftermarket parts as well. In all honesty, if you want refinement then this is not the truck for you. If you want an off-road machine that will last forever then this is the truck for you.

2 Line-X locations here. I've been told they can get good adhesion just a lot more prep. It is a hard brittle plastic so I think they could make it work.

As far as an off road machine I can borrow 4 wheelers. I won't wheel an 8000 pound truck that is parked outside. I have a 5 lug Tacoma that has been through hell. Sadly the dealer network and outrages parts replacement costs have are another reason I will not be purchasing a 3rd gen.

Per a tech at an undisclosed dealer. "So much work comes in that we send vehicles out to 3rd party service locations". They are beginning to sub-out the repairs.
