ride quality question

Im a new owner of a 2008 double cab trd off road w/ 29000 miles and over the last few days i've noticed when I drive at high speeds on the highway that the truck rides very rough. It just feels like the rear end of the truck vibrates over every little bump in the road.
What can i do to smooth out the ride. The shocks seem to be in good shape and i know the tires can have a little to do with it but i doubt it would make it this rough.

 

I find it rides smoother with a full load in the bed.... which makes sense. Other than that, I can't say I have any suggestions.

 

Tire balance, tread wear, ect. That's the #1 player. Aside from that, changing the suspension setup is about as good as you can do if you want to maintain aggressive tires. My truck starts shaking quite a bit every time I rotate tires.... goes away pretty quick though as the tread settles. Plus I beat the hell out of my tires so...

 

Whats your tire pressure at? you need to put a few pounds less in the rear to soften it up a bit. like 32 in the front and 29 in the rear.

 

Change the rear Shocks.. It smoothed out a lot for me when I put OME's shocks on there. And ofcourse.. the more you wheel, the smoother the ride is going to get... (or your just going to think it;s a lot smoother.. )

plus - 600 pounds of mud underneath smooths out anything almost..

 

x2 tire pressures help too! go lower! 29 - get the tires really hot before lowering to 29lb.

 

Im running my tires at 29 now.

 

those blue shocks in the back are junk... seriously... easy to change. Start there!

 

I can tell you this! a truck is designed to haul extra weight. when it's not got on extra weight it rides ruff. My freightliner rides like shit with out any weight on the back end!

 

What tires are on it? LT or P rated? If LT, what load range are they?

 

I believe your right sam, i've have blue shocks on the rear. To me they just look cheap.
What rear shocks or just shocks in general would be recommended. I've read alot about the 5100 series on this board but is there anything better for someone who doesn't off road and just wants a smoother ride for highway.

 

My ride improved when I replaced the rear factory Bilsteins for the 5100s. I think if yours have the TSB springs it may also stiffen the ride..

 

They seem very cheap.. probably damn near anyhting made well is better. 5100's is what I would recommend to you.. in expensive and well made. I used the OME rear shock.. exampl below although I have the TSB rear end.

for the advise. I'm going to go with the 5100 on the rear and the go from there. It just really suprised me that the truck rides really good at low speeds on smooth roads but as soon a you hit 40mph and start getting some patchy roads like we have alot of here in good ol wv the butt end just starts hoppin lol.

The best improvement in my ride has been the TSB. Even with an empty bed in the city or on the highway. You'd think that adding another leaf in the back would hurt the ride but instead it improved it. My stock 3 leaf springs were almost horizontal and with the TSB 4 leaf setup there's more of an arc which I suppose helped help the ride. It is called a "harsh-ride" TSB because it fixes a harsh ride, especially when carrying a load. But I found even with an empty bed the ride is much improved.

 

It's still there, but much better.. it is a truck after all.
