I just came from an F250. It was a necessity. All my trucks have had them but this one, especially parking in my garage.

I can infer most of you have never had them, but it is extremely convenient.

Why is it a necessity though? I'm genuinely curious. The Taco is less wide than a F250, but still, I use my mirrors to back into my garage. I don't get it still. Am I missing something?

I parked regularly in a parking garage in SE Washington DC across the Navy Yard and never had to fold my Tacoma mirrors in. You only save about 2 inches anyway, they aren’t trailer mirrors.

I had an F250 as well and the size of the Tacoma was super appealing to me.

I'm an IT manager. It's more government than corporate, but I have a team reporting to me and spend all day dealing with contracting, project management, or human resource bullshit. You've still lost me at "folding mirrors." Is the truck too wide to fit in a space? Does it not fit in your garage? Are you concerned about hitting pedestrians or something else?

It just really makes no sense to me. A folded mirror sticks maybe 3" less out than the body. What is the purpose? I'm really curious here. If I had to fold my mirror, I couldn't get out of the truck, and I weigh 150lbs and am a size small.

Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. This is just one of those features I never understood. I get heated mirrors. AC / heated seats are fucking awesome creature comforts. But folding mirrors? I don't get it. Please, as a user of them, my mind is open to their use.

Asian RAV4 has them. Rav4 mirror is the same as ours, so...

Someone will do this mod eventually. Next time I go to China/Taiwan I might check it out.

Only time needed, based on my experience, is the telescoping trailer tow mirrors. Otherwise an unneeded feature.

I did once. Only I guess technically it was power since it was the car wash machine that did.

There you go OP go to a car wash before hand.

Another truck parks next to you, opens door and bashes your mirror. Sometimes 3" is all it takes. Me for one have been there. Sure, may be rare, but happens. 1st stop on door hasn't been able to be used on occasion because of mirrors, so I too get OP's concern, ever try squeezing in a 2" opening? Is it not too much to ask that we catch up with our competitors, guess not. Have had to manually close mirrors due to proximity on more than one occasion, some narrow parking spots out there.

EDIT: Just to add to this, I care about another's vehicle, a lot of assholes don't care if they slam their door into your vehicle, because frankly, they are assholes!

This!!! Nothing pisses me off more than coming out to my trucks mirror pushed out, damaged or anything like that. If my F250 mirrors weren’t folded, you’d hit your head on them. You’re welcome. Lol

Wait wait wait. Is it a necessary, or is it a convenience?

The only time I needed them was when I dove these and backed up hundreds of trailers a day. And hey, these didn't even stick out as far.

We’re you parking 18 wheelers in a parking garage designed for yaris’?

Convenient that I didn’t have to do it by hand.

Also, pretty sure my F250 was bigger than that thing lol

You can't compare a space designated for truck trailer movement against space for mall parking. Just doesn't make sense. One is to maximize sales, other is to maximize freight efficiency. Two different things.

Your F250 was 70 feet long and bent in 3 different place with two trailers? Cool story, bro.

Here's the deal. Park away from everyone else. Problem solved. You might have to walk a little. I realize that small inconvenience may kill you. Or buy a Yaris for the mall. I can go on.

The feature is on full size trucks because sometimes fitting in a smaller parking space is tight. The extra 4-6inches (guessing) on each sides can make a difference for other people getting into their car next to you.
