Dealer "No Lifts on 2018"

I'd really love to have high beams that automatically dim. The rest I'm less interested in.

Yes, both have ABS (which I still hate), cruise control that just hold speed, headlights that point forward and go/off with a switch. They both have power locks.

My Taco doesn't have VSC or TRAC. It's a vacuum booster, stick shift before any of that was standard.

As far as stability control on our Forester, I dunno. It hasn't tried to do anything and no warnings go off if the back end wants to go first down a snow packed road. It will spin the tires on slick surfaces if you push it. She briefly owned a 2005 4Runner year ago that had VSC, so if it's like that I would expect power to be cut and brakes to whirl. If it has that it's certainly not aggressive or intrusive.

Both have airbags, not sure honestly what the Forester has.

Guess it's more fair to say this 2017 Forester seems no worse than my '08 Taco in nannyish tendency.

I still rather like driving and prefer to take care of it myself. But mostly I don't want all that complexity as prevention for repairs and failures. If past performance indicates future results I'll have this truck another 15 years (it replaced a 1991 in 2015) and her car another 14 (it replaced a 2002 in 2017). This Subaru is the first new car we've purchased, but our M.O. has been a 3 or so year old used vehicle (my Taco was 7, exceptional low miles but mainly because Toyotas are uber expensive in Colorado) and drive it until it's tired. In our financial place I have to do as many car repairs as I can and I'm still comfortable from what I could tell about this Forester that it won't be any worse than my Tacoma to work on.

These safety features will be standard soon. Toyota is just a few years ahead of the legislation.

 

Oh ok, I would assume these standards are for going forward with new vehicles from a manufacturing perspective right? I guess its good that I don't have the sophistication in the second gen to worry about getting dinged on an inspection or something weird like that if this component becomes a bigger deal down the road.

Toyota will not allow lifts to be installed on the tundra with this new safety equipment so it makes sense it would not be allowed on the Tacoma. Be mindful of the posters that say don’t listen to Toyota just go ahead and do it as they will be nowhere to be found if you have any trouble.

 

I'm going to have the door panels off for speaker upgrades before I get license plates! It's only research and time until I get a lift.

I can't wait to mod my $35-40k vehicle!

Yeah, I read here pretty much daily since I joined. It's your truck so do what you want. I wouldn't want to void my warranty to lift a truck for no reason other than thinking it looks cool, but to each his or her own.

Why the need to suggest I don't read threads?

 

Sorry. I had no idea that I had to foolishly modify my truck only to void my warranty to be on this site. My bad.

 

Good for you I guess. Speaker upgrades are a great idea because the ones that come in the truck don't work at all. Total junk.
The lift is also a highly intelligent move. You can come back here after it's done and get advice on how to make it stop squeeking, etc. Also, you may want to toss out those tires that came with it and replace them with some big, unbearably noisy ones. You should be good to go after that.
