Just curious if you had any info on any out here. I haven't ever purchased a car from an out of state dealership, but imagine it must be a PITA with the taxes, and reg.

Not usually since they handle most of the reg stuff... bought a car from a Jersey dealership when I was living in CT, they handled all the reg stuff, I drove away with a Jersey temp reg in the window. The only think I had to do was get it emissions checked in CT, which goes into the CT computer system and allowed them to finish the reg

The biggest issue is they know youve come from out of state once they see your license so they know your invested in the purchase, may be less willing to haggle

usually purchasing from an out of state dealer isn't to bad. Most dealers if they are close to a border can do all the needed tax paperwork without any issues, and even then every dealer is a capable of handling this.

Could always buy the car and then go to the DMV and cover the taxes yourself to.

I just went through this getting my truck and it was an absolute PITA; it probably didn't help that I went to Danbury to buy a car for MA. MA doesn't allow for temp/dealer plates so I couldn't drive the truck off the lot until I had a plate and reg (which requires insurance). They put Tax title & registration on the purchase price but, since they were useless in that process gave it all back to me since I had to pay for it all myself in MA. I had to drive there 3 times to get it completed: once to drive and sign for the truck, next to do the financial paperwork and for my dad to sign off on the trade-in(car was in his name), then a final time to pick up the truck. A few weeks later I had to go back to the DMV to switch over to my vanity plates.

So the process can be a royal pain in the ass but, I certainly made it worse for myself by driving to basically NY for my truck (god damn need for that 3rd pedal). That fact alone like @demo243 said caused them to be hard set on their price; only haggled them for $272 off but got it for almost invoice pricing

I have never been to Balise's service department or sales department, only to parts to buy some coolant. So I really cant say, but if they are like most dealers, they are probably hard to deal with.

i don't know that store but i'm tight with the gm at the toyota store in westport, should have gone there. 2, yeah nothing you can do if you're not transfering a tag. in mass they don't honor other states temp tags either. 3, there is a form that that dealer should have had you sign saying they collected sales tax for you. 4, most large dealers should be on a reg program that allows them to do the registration for you out of state. however if you're paying cash it's probably best you jsut pay for the truck and go to the rmv yourself. speaking of i should go register the fj today

As a customer, I've had good luck at the dealer in Westport.
My sister bought her 4Runner there also.

I don't really have to many dealers I would recommend.... Haddad only wanted to deal with "what I wanted to pay per month" and really wouldn't accept any reasonable offer. Northway Toyota, where I got my last 2 Tacomas from, was great at first and then all of a sudden when down the shitter. Had to file a corporate complaint because they refused to honor warranty work that they performed, then didn't order the new parts after Toyota told them to do so, then wouldn't call me back... Lia Toyota is ok, I think the guy I was dealing with was a ditz cause he didn't want to actually give me a number on anything. He honestly kept saying "o trade would be like $22k to $25k and the 4runner is in the $35k range.."

Now that you mention that I do believe mass is a pain in that regard... When I was living in CT I sold my Subaru to someone from MA and they had to get it reg'ed and get plates before they could come back down and pick it up

But you may be able to get a temp plate from the state you purchased it in- when I bought my 1st gen tacoma I bought it private party in NJ, and just went to the local NJ DMV and got a temp plate from them

In NH it's easy to buy from wherever you want, I used to buy all my Toyotas at Acton Toyota in MA. It was easy as pie to buy from them.
