Some of our ATX locals just took a trip out there.

The pics were amazing! I would love to go as well.

If we put something together you'll be in the loop Chad! Every Texan needs to visit Big Bend at least once in their life.

The only thing that sucks is that it's so far out there that you gotta add days to the trip for travel time, but the destination is so worth it.

I've been in Yellowstone NP alongside about a gazillion tourists, and been on top of Angel's Landing in Zion NP with about 100 people next to me on one tiny rock perch, and at Delicate Arch with about 200 people surrounding Utah's iconic monument...

Yet in most parts of Big Bend it was just me and my dad when I took him a few years ago. It may not be as grandiose as Yellowstone, Glacier, Yosemite NPs... but it's one of a few places left in our protected wilderness where you can fully immerse yourself into the landscape with little to no distraction.

I'll take serenity and solitude over grandeur and popularity EVERY time.

Same here man, same here! I still need to summit Emory Peak, Texas' 14th highest peak and the highest in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend. I've only been up 5 of the top 13. Need to grow that list!

:oldglory: <--- pretend it's a Texas flag... which really it should be. Texas is the America of America, after all.

I'm not due when I'll go back. I was thinking when I went in November it would be my last time going but I think I'll need time for in 1 more trip down there. After going twice I want to send mite time in other areas of the country. 9 hrs gets me pretty far west and out of Texas if I head north instead of South.

That's a good point. Not for me though, 9 hours and I'm still in Texas once I move.

I thought you mentioned something about going back to BB around New Years? Maybe that was someone else at Gilmer saying that.

Yea, i want to attempt the summit as well as well as others around there as I am in way better shape now than I was then.

When we went back in April, I did a stop in Amarillo State Park for the night and would do it again honestly. Would make the trip better instead of a full day driving.

I would also like to go to BBSP and spend some more time in Terlingua as that is such a sweet place.

Honestly i would need a full week off during the week and leave Friday and come back the following Saturday or Sunday prob. Just take my time and not rush anything.

Man, that should be some serious solitude. Awesome! I've done a few Christmas trips in the past and they're always the best.

We gotta do the family thing this Christmas since my out of state siblings will be here for once.
