I am not going to because if it cracks I will have a custom bed made up of steel. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Not a Tacoma but same type of bed and seems to hold up just fine. Not sure who would do this in real life other than to a base model F250 work truck provided by work but you never know I guess. We have some scratches in ours but no more than if I drug and dropped stuff in a painted bed.

This really surprising to me. It's a truck bed...it's supposed to be used. It's not the interior of a car. Of all things to complain about this seems lest of all.

I like my 2016 DCSB Off Road a lot. I've had no maintenance problems and no apparent manufacturing defects in just over 29,000 miles. It's performed well for me on and off road and proven itself very capable. The 'crawl control' feature works well both up and downhill. No leaks or drips. No strange noises.

All in all, my copy of the 3rd Gen Taco is great.

I’ve hauled at least a dozen loads of 1200-1500# of 1” landscape gravel in my gen-3 2.7 taco with no horrific consequences. Sure it roughs up the bed surfaces a little, but it would do the same to a painted steal bed. It’s a truck, use it like a truck.
    That said, I wouldn’t go off-roading with a loaded truck and 2wd.

I had an 06 dcsb sport 6 speed with 5100s and a bumper and winch. I loved that truck but it was showing it’s age and the 6 speed was a terrible trans. Built weak and geared poorly. Got my 16 dcsb OR/AT and never looked back. My tans was 2 qts low (but I got an 8 yr warranty bc of it) and it needed the body mount tsb. I put my old winch in a hidden mount on it, and also added firestone airbags, and did the mandatory rear differential breather relocate. The stock suspension is worlds better than my 5100s were. I can get 23mpg with the RTT, bed full of gear, gf and 2 dogs. My 06 did 17 hwy empty. The 16 is much quieter and more refined. It handles better on the street and soaks up the offroad better than my 06. It does upshift very quickly and the power is kinda surgey for a moment under heavy throttle, but neither of those were deal breakers for me.

    Like, so many.
That's pretty sassy. Speaking of sassy, Oregon fans are NOT happy with FSU for taking care of their head coach. What a crazy coaching carousel in college football.

Whoa. I didn't realize that. And here I was worrying about it rusting "under there".

Well @melikeymy beer , you've done it. I've been meaning to get up on ramps and roll around under this thing. I just had my 5k "service"(inspection). Incidentally, I had them check the rear diff level (because I'm on TW too much). It was topped off nicely from the factory per the tech. That bed is a trip. Not a bit of metal.

This is the bed of my 2004 after 12 years of hauling all kinds of shit. Most everyone on this forum complains. I had to think of something ;)

Here's an honest reply from a 2nd Genner... I really like the look of the 3rd gen from all angles EXCEPT the front/grille. It's too overdone for my tastes; I think the 2013 front end looks a lot more "quietly confident".

I'd love to have the interior of the 3rd gen but it's not enough to make me consider trading out of a perfectly good 2013 Tacoma.

I think I'd prefer the proven reliability of my 4.0 over the new-fangled 3.5 motor, but I do admire the potential for better MPGs in the 3rd gen.

Overall, they're all good trucks. I think that a lot of the issues with the 3rd gen are overblown and most could be taken care of with a little attention and a good dealer. Sucks that they've been a thorn in the side of some, though.

If heaven forbid something happened to my truck today I'd probably take my insurance check and head right to a dealer for a new 2018. But I'd miss the crap out of my 2013.

The solution to that conundrum cost me and hour of my time and under $100 for some mesh, some Goop and a Land Cruiser badge from ebay.

According to Pickuptrucks.com and the Wall Street Journal - GM is toying with the idea of carbon fiber beds in their new trucks. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2017/12/next-gm-pickups-might-go-carbon-fiber.html

Drove my buddies 3rd gen the other day. 16 tacoma access cab 4x4 2.7L 5 speed manaul. I have a 10 access cab same motor 4x4 5 speed manual. I Live in the mountains so daily i climb a steep windy road home about 2 miles up. I climb it DAILY in third gear and by the top im hitting 4th. The third gen made it maybe halfway before slowing bogging down enough to shift down in second..MY K&N air filter CANT make that much of a difference? OR CAN IT??
