I neither can nor will say anything negative about the KO2's . I can only attest to the sttributes off the MAXX's. For me, as an agressive AT tire they ride great even with an "E" rating, they're relatively quiet, and I haven't encountered anything yet they don't get good traction in. I'm sure there are some short commings, however, the only one I've found so far is they're heavy.

    "D" I believe and I don't think there's a huge difference in weight sadly

    +1 Cooper ST Maxx

Great tire on highway. Fairly quiet. Great tire in snow/ice. Great on slick rock at Moab. Great in the dirt/rocks in Montana's mountains.

And the sidewalls take a beating and hold up well. Really can't complain.

My #1 concern is ride. I want a plush ride on the road since I do a good bit of driving. Going to a ten ply will certainly ride a bit harsher than my 8.

If ride comfort is your #1 you should buy some Michelin tires. No better highway tire out there.
Michelin LTX AT3 for an AT tire
    or
Michelin LTX Defender for Highway LT tire

Well maybe I shouldn’t have said that. It’s not necessary true. But it’s definitely a concern for me. I also want a tire that looks aggressive as well. Probably going back with the KO2 despite the fact it doesn’t come in 8ply.....oh well.

They’re still stiff for a midsize, but not too bad.

Has it's pros and cons. Nobody's truck in town looks like mine.

Except you can see EVERY dead bug that hits it. lol

Hard to keep the bumper clean.

that was the only downfall I could imagine. I do want to shoot the center of the hood and down across the top of the grill surround with matt black it's kinda hard to do outside arond here in the spring though with all the pollen

The Nitto Ridge Grapplers come in both C (6 ply) and E rated....which is one of the big reasons I chose them over E rated KO2's

I just replaced a set of KO2's with a set of St Maxx and they ride much better and are only slightly louder. Same psi and load E.

Love the ST Maxx!!! what size are these?

I'm looking to get a new set and I'm split 3 ways:
P285/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT2 - my truck currently has these... very pleased but not excited with them.
    285/70/17 BFG KO2 (LT 10 ply)
and 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx (LT 10 Ply) - This is my current preference

the main reason why I like the Toyos is because they're lighter than all the rest, since they are P285 - help with better MPG

Main reason i like the BFG is history, reliability, they're proven, and I like the look of them - but they're heavy and a LOT of people have them

Main reason I like the ST Maxx is because they're very aggressive looking and I'm leaning toward the thinner look of the 255/80s and since it is narrower, it is probably better on gas, although heavy being a 10 ply - but I am concerned on they're performance on Sand in Baja.

Can someone help steer me in the best direction??

    I have a 2009 4x4 double cab 6 cyl

I tow a 1200 lb boat 700 miles to Baja about 3 times a year.
I beach launch the boat so sand performance is VERY important

I off-road very lightly here in San Diego

    Thanks!

My top 1-2 tire pick right now is 1. Nitto Ridge Grappler and 2. BFG-KO2.

Have you tried searching? Tons of info covering your exact vague question. Best all terrain for what? There is no best, it all depends on the use. Need tons more detail to help you decide properly (which has already been covered in numerous other threads). Do you drive in snow? Is it hard packed or deep powder, how often? Does it require going in the mountains where chains are required? Do you see a ton of rain? What kind of off-roading will you see? Rocks, mud, dirt roads, fire trails? Are these year round tires? Do you tow or haul often? What climate do you live in? What is most important to you or weighs on your decision? MPG? Noise? Cost? Longevity? Or are you going for the "coolest looking" tire?

You say all-terrain but many people are recommending hybrid tires (Cooper ST, Ridge Grappler) those are more aggressive than an all-terrain yet less aggressive than a mud-terrain. They will be noisier, worse on gas, handle worse and ride stiffer in many cases as they will be a LT tire.

Either way more info is needed if you aren't willing to search.

My personal top choices are if you want a more aggressive AT tire and don't want to pay the over-hyped and over-rated BFG prices would be the General Grabber AT2. If you are looking for the best all around (good compromise of MPG, noise, traction and ability) would be the Cooper AT3, that will be my next tire. They won an expedition portal test a couple years back.

I have also heard good things about the Falken AT3W, great price, on the more aggressive side and more geared towards winter. I have also heard they are more a hybrid though? I see conflicting info on that from tests. I would classify it as more hybrid than AT.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Goodyear Duratracs... trust me you don't want the headache. Look into the Dick Cepek FC, Coopers ST Maxx, and Nitto Ridge Grappler.

I'm probably going with the ST Maxx in the skinny in 16". Several on a facebook group running them and still getting good mileage and love em.
