It took me nearly 2 months to install and wire the powered subwoofer I bought. Take your time, do a little at a time, it'll get done.

    I used JBLs: GT7-96 & GT7-6

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109JBLG796/JBL-GT7-96.html?tp=91

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109JBLG76/JBL-GT7-6.html?tp=94

Awesome sound... love them and am very happy w/ what I have in the truck. They are extremely efficient and fit great. These are the speakers the tech at Crutchfield suggested for me as I was first looking at Infiniti speakers. He noted on those that the Infiniti speakers would not sound great without a separate amp to push them. I did not want to go that far, so these were a great substitution.

I said this somewhere else - you could probably go to Wal-Mart and get some cheap Pioneer speakers from there that would sound better that what is in the truck.

If you'e referring to me, I read your posts yesterday. I've read literally every post in this thread. Yeah I think I will need at least that much time, if not more. I tend to take my time with most stuff, especially since I'm gonna be trying to be super careful

What do you think made the biggest impact on road/wind noise in the cabin, the doors or the rear wall? I've done the front doors and noticed an improvment but have not yet had time to do the rear doors or rear wall. Probably gonna do the rear wall first.

It's hard to tell. The rear wall lets a lot of road noise through. I had my rear seats and bins out for a week while I was working on the subwoofer mount and the rear wall noise was awful, especially on the highway.

did you mess with the vent at all? It seems like most of the noise is coming from that passenger side vent. saw pics of a guy who actually pulled the bed off the truck so he could get to the vents from the outside.

No, there's no need as long as the seats and bins are in.

Big thank you for the OP and other supporting members here with this thread. Upon reading this and all the positive comments I too picked up all the items exactly as detailed in the first post. The results were really good for the money and totally worth it imo. While I did get the sound suppression material noted in the first post I did not install it. I took one look at the extra work involved at the time and was pressed for time so I figured I would do the speakers alone first then decide later when I have more time if I want to go back and add the material. As of now I don't plan on going back to add the material.

My question now is would there be a good benefit of adding an amp to this (kicker) setup and how involved (cost, possible products) would that be? What do you folks think?

Any input is appreciated and thank you again to all the folks here who have helped to promote this worthwhile upgrade.

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/

Disclaimer: the setup i purchased below is by no means a high quality expensive setup. It gets job done reliably and adds tons of value though.

A few added an amp setup and posted above. The speakers handle 150 and 100 watt rms so there would absolutely be a value to adding an amp. I just returned the very expensive setup i purchased from crutchfeild and went with a 5 channel kenwood amp that pushes 50 watts to each speaker and 300 watts to my sub instead. All you would need for an amp to the speakers would be an amp, with hi level inputs to the amp or the rca connector that plugs and plays listed in a post above but that one has bad reviews. Then a 4gauge wiring kit for 40$ or so. So cost is around 300$ to do it and about 2 hours of work for me since ive done about 10 installs on amps and subs or for a novice about 4 hours. As far as quality, you could do a lc6i and all those things but this isnt the thread for that this is the novice simple install thread the op intended plus a little extra to add to op’s original suggestions.

    Materials:
50x4 channel amp with hi level input
    4 gauge wiring kit
9 wire speaker wire and rem bundle to go from amp to speaker wire behind stereo.
(Optional only) line in converter such as lc6i.

This is what i just purchased:
    1)Amp https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113X8015/Kenwood-Excelon-X801-5.html
2)17’ 4 gauge red wire, 5’ 4 gauge black wire, 90 watt in line fuse
3)(x2)9 strand speaker wire to connect audio from stereo to amp then audio from amp to speakers. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_1429WC1820/EFX-9-Wire-Ultra-Flex-Speaker-Wire-20-feet.html?tp=2917

Best buy wanted 450$ to install amp when i asked the installer lastweek and local stereo shop wanted 275$ to install. The wiring cost me 90$ and i get to install it how i want it so i chose this route.

So you have many options, many different 4 channel amps out there, many different components to add to installation if you wanted the “competition sound quality etc.” but in the end all you need is an amp and to have it wired.

The rear is terrible at letting in road noise. If I ever get where I'm that so bored that I'm game for pulling all the stuff out to get to it, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Anything you add to this truck will help. I think they put in as little as possible and milked all they could out of us in profit on it.
