I would not use a AR for home defense...yea its badss and will get the job done but a lawyer will eat you alive. Yes it would of been self defense in your home but a lawyer would ask "why the AR?" why not a shotgun (best option for home defense) or even a handgun? Just think if you would of had to shoot that guy at close range...that bullet wouldnt of stopped in him it would keep going and possibly hit a neighbors house or even a neighbor. Ill pull my Mossberg 500 loaded with Hornady SST slugs or my HK P30 with Speer Gold Dot hollow points before ill pull my Bushmaster AR.

Because I dont have a shotgun.... If all I had was a hand grenade I would have used that... Regardless of what I used, I was able to stand gaurd and defend my house and my family.

I highly doubt I'd get asked "why the AR?" here in AZ.
Also, a shotgun may be your best option for HD but it surely is not THE best option.

with my AR I get 30 shots, with my .40 I get 12 shots, if I got my big ass auto shotgun from my dad's I would have 3 shots...
Maybe I should get another .40 and dual weild, birdshot in one and holo points in the other:D

    please...do elaborate

i would also like to see some case law where someone defending themselves was "eaten alive" by a lawyer over what kind of gun or caliber they used

deadly force is deadly force...theres no varying levels of deadly force

I've been looking for some but cant find them anywhere:confused:
I guess I should have snagged a few when I was a munitions warehouse guy in the AF...
ohh man that would have been fun, unlimited amounts of ball 5.56, hand grenades, det cord, smoke grenades, and everything else you can think of. The coolest thing I got to do with it was inspect all of it....

    back to bone stock.
great thread. i need a "scare" to get my wife gun shopping. :D i'm joking of course.

i was watching one of those home defense shows...the .223 was named the best home defense caliber. the bullets only went thru one interior was before harmlessly shattering into tiny bits. a 9mm went thru 3 interior walls, and the exterior wall.

i have my 9mm, and shotguns to defend us.

as long as you are willing and able to use them in case of an intruder!
My wife says she doesnt think she could shoot someone if they broke into our house. I said what if they are about to kill you!?! "well maybe, i just dont know.."

    "damnit babe, game face...game face"
I need to get her to the range and get some shooting time in and get her confident in handling guns.

very true. i know it would take a second to determine "do i really cap this fool?" but if my life was in danger... and my family.... said fool would be full of lead.
