Yes, a regear is important when changing the tire size, but most people don't spend 2k to regear.

What I meant was you can easily live without a regear on the 255s, 285s I feel like a regear is more necessary at least IMO with the Tacomas I've been in.

So do you feel the truck goes downt the hwy the same as before with the slightly larger Wildpeaks or does it seem to need to drop out of overdrive more frequently?

Drives pretty much the same honestly. Can't tell the difference honestly.

Well, Its only been a week or so, and I haven't had much of a chance to really drive extensively in many different conditions, but again these tires seem to work well in most (dry pavement, wet, snow, mud, rock, dirt, etc.) conditions. I have noticed that the overall ride is a little stiffer, especially when cornering. I actually prefer the stiffer ride, rides more like a truck should and less like a car. My only real concern with handling would be when driving in real slick, icy conditions- which we often have here in the winter. I haven't noticed much slipping in icy conditions yet, but I still need to add weight to the bed, and I usually slow down considerably while driving in those conditions to help with traction. Really digging the purchase still so far...

I put a set of St Maxx's on at about the same time as you, currently running 33lbs front, 34 rear.

These things feel amazing, and gas milage has not changed a ton, maybe +/- .5 L/100km. (Around 1 mpg.)

I have not had them in deep mud yet, but this last weekend I was on a really icy section of road up to an old abandoned ski resort, they help up great with little to no slipping.

Once I had enough elevation I was breaking trail through about 12" of wet sticky snow. They help up great through it. There little to no spinning or digging, unless I was flooring it.

Thanks for the feedback - I just don't want the truck to turn into a total dog on the road. Sounds like they are working great in all conditions.

Are we doing action videos now? In AF. Someone said something about deep mud?

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/0Pw1tC8nSmFnPbc83

At the end of this trip it started snowing pretty heavy and I got my first experience with the KM2s in the snow. Surprisingly uneventful, at 40psi on back roads I did not experience any slipping. They have gotten a little bit louder as they wear and still don't balance for shit though.

Also- re: weight- I just stopped carrying a spare around town for mpg. A 10 ply E rated tire, plus a patch kit and 12v compressor gives me confidence I won't need a spare unless I have a blowout or some crap. That got me ~55 pounds back.

Re: mpg- I'm getting around 18 typically but can still manage 20+ on long 55mph drives. The 255 is still a 33 yes, but it has way less rolling friction than a 285 which is also why a regear isn't necessary IMO. The only driving difference I noticed vs stock is a little bit harder to get moving. Once they're turning it's fine.

Hmmmm, I should also mention that these tires are heavier of course and perhaps take longer to slow down or speed up the truck, in theory. Honestly I can barely tell the difference with stop/go compared to the OEM tires, affected slightly but I expected that. Also hadn't planned on re-gearing. So far it doesn't seem necessary. I still need to drive in more/different conditions and tow some with them. Oh, they seemed to be unbalanced at first- slight shimmy or wobble, but that has either worked itself out or I have gotten use to it. The pros still definitely outweigh the cons...

    Would a 255/85/16 fit on a 3rd Gen SR5 16” x 7” wheel?

What are the measurements/backspacing etc of the Off Road wheel?

I have an unmounted set of SR5 wheels in garage. I’ll go measure them later or tomorrow.

If no one has the information readily available for the off road wheel, I’ll look it up later when I have more time.
