Anyone experiencing terrible gas mileage?

Past few months I've been shrugging this off, but my wallet is starting to hurt from it. I can't seem to figure out why I'm only getting 13-15 MPG! I have an automatic 5 lug RC 2013 with the fat bob's leveling kit, 235 75 15 Hankook Dynapro M/T and 15x7 Cragar Wheels. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person so I've checked the easy things such as the tire pressure and air filter. I mainly do highway driving so I just sit at 70 MPH just a little bit over 2.3k RPM. I really want to move up to 31 10.50 15 or even 32 10.50 15, but if my MPG is looking like this, it will never happen. I don't accelerate like a madman nor do I drive like a grandpa. Tips and suggestions?

 

Is the 13-15 mpg before or after Distance correction?

 

Before, I didn't think the 235 75 15 were that big of a difference from stock

 

Maybe they’ve done something to the fuel, because my mileage has dropped a couple mpgs even before it got cold. I used to get 18-20, now I’m at about 16-18. The only thing I’ve done to my stock truck are spark plugs back in July.

 

my MPG is down too, even though i have 31 x10.5 x 15 im getting way less than my 15-17 MPG

 

The common Industry 'excuse' that i hear for this is the seasonal switch-over of fuel from 'summer' to 'winter' formulation, to compensate for cold start conditions and maintain EPA standards. Not sure of respondent's locations, but years before this was done for northern USA states and Canada.. they may be doing it now for all markets, due to most of the refineries servicing Canadian and many northern state requirements are now located on the gulf coast, and are the common supply source.

My tire-upsize to the heavier E-class weight tires also coincided with this supposed switchover - my mpg / l/100km is off also, but not sure what is the primary cause at this point.

I'm rolling on 33s. Getting about 13-15mpg. Honestly I bitch about my MPG, but at the end of the day I understand that I'm a 4cyl rolling on 33s. MPG is going to be garbage. If I cared about MPGs, I'd be driving a Camary/Corolla.

 

I understand your point, but we are trying to figure out why the mpgs are dropping for no apparent reason. I thought something might be wrong with my truck, but it sounds like it is probably the fuel.

Winter blend is a thing, even here in Texas. The aircraft that I worked on used 93 and we would have to mix half 100LL and half 93 or the planes didn't run right during the winter.

 

My 2017 TRD 4 door sport gets 15 to 16 MPG driving in the real world verses the 20+ claimed by Toyota. Maybe their test track is all downhill.

 

That sucks for you guys. I'm an 4.0L 07 on tall 33's and weighing in at 5400+lbs, and I get 17mpg with winter gas. (highway)

 

This thread is pretty much on the i4 2.7, since it is in the 5-lug section - but the principle applies for all engine configurations in regard to fuel formulation.

Pre-mod with my bare bones truck - i was able to routinely able to get above average MPG figures with the i4/5 speed combination through conservative driving, but then i got bored and mpg went out the window.

Winter usually saw a dip in MPG/increase of fuel ups... it's more expensive also.

 

v6, supercharged, regeared, full skids/bumpers, not allowing the motor to warm up.. I get 10-11. That is 130 miles to a tank.

If I am only doing highway, Ill get 220. That is when I am happy. You guys have it easy

 

My 2000 4x4 SR5 extra cab I4 manual got better mileage than my current 2017. Thank goodness I average about 3,000 to 5,000 a year on my personal truck.

 

That is really weird I track my gas mileage and I get around 16 city and 18 highway. That is with 31s on average. Tracked it for a while now 10k miles. Sometimes I get really bad mileage, but then sometimes I get like 20 mpg or more with 31s on the highway its crazy.

 

something going on with mine, I4 four banger automatic 4x4 I was getting regularly 23.3, then I changed my oil thought I would get a big increase but no now 22.1 mpg these trucks seem all over the place with the mpgs, I don't think ive changed my driving habits ive noticed this syndrome since I bought it. it seems that when I use the Costco gas it stays more consistant than most other gas I use, maybe a fluke.
