I got a rock chip in my windshield from a semi truck on the highway and I got it filled a week ago by safelite windshield repair. They came to my house and filled it with no problems, then exactly a week after it was filled after my window defrosted in the morning I noticed a 1/2inch split coming from the filled rock chip. I called safelite and reported it, they let me know if it splits any more they will replace my windshield. It was only repaired a week ago and if it already split now I'm almost positive this winter it will inevitably split even more. How far do you think I should wait for it to split before I let them know and let them replace my windshield. Just the fact that it split after having it repaired frustrates me.

They won't do anything to correct their work now but they will if it splits more? That doesn't make sense. I'd just call and tell them it's getting worse so they come out and make it right.

I know I was confused too. I feel like because it split even a little bit they should replace my windshield. It's a lifetime guarantee that it won't split after repaired and it's only been a week and it has already split.

Weird. I've used the $7 DIY stuff at O'Reilly's a couple times and had no issues with it splitting. Wonder where they F'ed up

I had the dealership tell me the chip on my windshield was already fixed and that the spidering was from the film between glass sheets 'wrinkling'....:annoyed:I guess we will see after the first snowfall here.
Course it was a Chevy dealership I bought my Taco from, so they probably don't want to see it anymore and just fed me something so I'd leave.

Good luck with yours. That chip looks way worse than mine.

If you smack it with your fist it'll spread more :spy:. Got a rock chip from a semi on my way to my families property. Tried to get a mosquito that got into the truck.........cracked it a good 13 inches from that chip.......before I could get it filled.......

That's what I was thinking. I should just have them come replace it under their own dime because it's only been a week and it already split.

If that was mine, I'd be asking for a new windshield. Obviously, that repair failed.

They probably didn't get all the air out of the chip.

Must not have. I know it's only a matter of time before it splits more. Looks like I'll be contacting safelite very soon about getting me a new windshield.
