I decided that while I'm working on the basement it would be best to think about the future. So if we were ever to want to have a water softener that I would want to have my refrigerator ice makers running off a line not tied into the softener supply. My house has a branch system for plumbing, so I decided to isolate the refrigerator in my kitchen since it will soon be hidden behind drywall in my basement ceiling. I cut and capped the branch that comes off the main lines, and then ran pex from the cpvc stick that ties into my refrigerator to my storage room where my water supply is and tapped into a pex line I have there running to a basement fridge. all in all only about 30 minutes worth of actual work, but it feels good to know that I have the option down the road now without cutting my ceiling to make changes.

Worked on the exterior high wall of my dad's addition recently. Three generations are working the project together.

Correct, it doesn’t come with a pole. I used a telescopic painting pole I picked up at sherwin Williams paint store.

Thankfully the top tier has a trap door, and we anchor the frame to the studs with 2x4.

Dad is afraid of heights, so I get to work up there. It was my idea to have that roofline. Inside ceiling will start at 10' off the floor and climb to 16'.

Well at least they were consistent in their poor repairs? Aren't the cinder-blocks only strong when the holes are vertical? o_O:notsure:
Is this the bulldozer conversation one?

    Yes , yes

Looks like this building has seen 3 substantial renovations during it's life and historical pictures show the original portion of the building was a 1 storey rectangular shed or shop of some kind , interestingly , the oldest part of the house "foundation" which is just vertical 4x12 on to flat pieces of sandstone has done better than the later added on cinderblock show

Reminds me of a house I went to when I was looking to buy. They had a like storage area build under the living room area above. To support the floor they had 4x4's set on top of old tree stumps. I walked away pretty dang quick for that and other reasons

Damn, Oz, you certainly don't mind taking elephant size bites, huh?
Is this cheaper to repair, or is there historical issues at play?

Cheaper to deal with what we have than tear down and rebuild

Just curious about your framing , is your rake wall framed to top of rafter elevation with the rafters set to birdsmouth on the walls front and back ?

I hate to say it but I love every bit off that picture. Screw seismic pinned walls and solid foundations. Forget using a cinder block in its strong position. And let's paint this window purple.

Wish I had a picture of the old carjack I found under a "support" in a home. Pressed into the dirt not even a 2x under it. I am honestly amazed more things aren't on fire or just falling down.
