any DIY security measures to protect our catalytics?

two of my buddies had theirs stolen recently.

any security ideas?

Is this really an issue any more? Scrap yards wont give you shit for them anymore. I know because I went catless on my IS300 a year ago and I was trying to clean out my garage and they wouldn't give me any more than like $5 for each.

 

I think its still an issue in places.

I just made a "skid plate" out of sheet metal and pop riveted it on, don't need to worry any more. I don't have any pics but ill try to snap some later today.

 

Ive heard of 1st gen guys, just putting a little dot weld on both sides where the pipes meet.

You could always chain it up.
Mine has like a heat shield and I swapped the philips screws with an Alan Wrench. So that will be a bit harder to unscrew.

 

in TN you now need to give a thumb print and driver's license when selling even alum cans at a scrap yard; since they've started requiring this, no more stolen cats. A few yrs ago it was fairly common to hear about it, esp with 4X4s where it's easy to get under, but haven't heard anything since.

if you're worried, just have someone put a tack weld the nuts or bolt heads to the flanges. You can just hit it with a grinder if you ever need to remove it.

 

What about some sort of flame thrower rigged up to strike anywhere matches, a magnifying glass, and a can of Teal spray paint? that would make em hurt for sure.

 

It would also be illegal. You'd probably be sharing the jail cell with the thief. Or sued by him.
