    He puts on like 30k miles a year. I don't think he's going to fix it, he's looking at trading it in today. The noise is in the back of the engine or possibly the transmission. It's not throwing any codes and it does still run but the noise is tough to ignore and is proving tough to diagnose without tearing into it. If it's the engine or the tranny, replace one and the other still has a lot of miles on it, as does the rest of the truck. As some point, other bearings, belts, hoses, etc will start to fail as well so I think he's making the right choice by trading it.
