Mike I am not going to post it again you can not make to much money to do your VA only certain services aid and attendance etc the basics does not have a limit. YEARS ago they did. https://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/cost/financial_assessment.asp

Note this section specifically the last 8 words:

There is no change in VA’s long-standing policy to provide no-cost care to Veterans who cannot afford to pay for their care, Veterans with catastrophic medical conditions, Veterans with a disability rating of 50 percent or higher, or for conditions that are officially rated as “service-connected.”

Well, it's started to snow - flurry really. I just came back from the transfer station (aka dump without a hole in the ground) and the town trucks are already out dropping "frame replacement" crap on the roads. They're not even wet at all - bone dry, nothing covering them... o_O

Yesterday they went around and pretreated with liquid rust on all of the hills.

So without any service related disability and no dependents the "VA National Income Limits for medical benefits and prescriptions" is $32K a year. There are county based limits based on States also. So for me to get free VA, I already have health care at the #1 ranked medical facility in the US, I have to prove a disability. And no way I can qualify for the magic 50% disability. However if I can prove hearing loss from working in the engine room which I do have I qualify for 10% which puts me at eligibility for coverage of hearing (and only hearing) for that specific disability. Which is hearing aides. The government conveniently lost my baseline audiograms from when I first joined. However from the conversation last night with the prior VSO from SD he told me I have ringing in my ears. Which I actually do. And that makes me eligible. Talk about jumping through hoops.

The real advantage seems to come from once your retired. Normally retirement income drops your income to a level where you can be covered under VA as well as Medicare. Have a few more years for that though and where I work now has a Medicare supplement insurance pretty cheap compared to most places. Damn near need a road map for the medical coverage now days. Oh and there is that worthless Tricare thing too which at age 65 you can have options for Tricare For Life or wrap around coverage. Clear as mud isn't it?!

The county plow finally went by here just now and hopefully dropped a little bit of the frame replacement crap. They are stingy as hell with it and should have done it at least 12 hours ago. I need to make a trip to the CoGen station to get rid of some trash too. Although I think it is actually more a transfer station than a CoGen plant don't care what they say. I miss the days of going to the dump with the .22 and shooting rats. Was always an entertaining way to spend the day. And the bears would come in at night.

Yes but you can also get a 10k cheap life insurance no questions asked with in two years of your rating. It is a long term thing get in the system what and all the powers that be forbid if you end up needing a nursing home you have more options just saying .

Exactly and agree 100% and I do need to get in the system. Was really surprised when reading it that those going active after 1980 only have 5 years to apply or something like that and have to be active duty for 2 years now instead of 180 days. WTH? I would think once your in harder to get thrown out when they add even more restrictions. Which I am sure they will continue to do.

I don't see how some of you guys work standing on concrete all day. My back still hurts a little from walking around on it for 3 days this week.

I always thought those high snow walled roads and walkways looked pretty neat.

Went out to breakfast this morning, we barely got a dusting and some clown in a Jeep Wrangler is driving 10mph.
